Gibson to take over SA bowling coach role from

Langeveldt

Charl Langeveldt will not be retained as South Africa's bowling coach with Ottis Gibson expected to take over the role alongside his duties as head coach. Although he did not confirm whom he has been scouting, Gibson is expected to appoint the rest of his support staff over the next few weeks, which will include an assistant coach, a batting coach, a fielding coach and a spin-bowling coach.

What's your take on Gibson?

Feel neutral about the guy.Has good credentials and I think if we can get the best 11 on the park he will get decent results at least for the interim. When the seniors retire its gonna be ugly though.

Don't really think we got a coach problem tbh or problems that can get solved by the coach; Our local cricket has had a huge drop in quality paired up with a financially struggling cricket board as well as a shallow talent pool.

As long as he doesn't elevate a Sammy style player or sit and stab players in the back like he did when he was at WI I'll probably remain the same about the guy.

Using the word ugly while discussing Coach Gibson is not allowed on this messageboard.

That sounds like a fair assessment.

Didn't he already stab Langeveldt ?

How many more will be stabbed? wink

Haha , to be honest he is within his rights if he maybe wants more control as a coach.
I thought Langes did an OK job since AD quit,so I'm sure he'd be a bit gutted.

We'll just have to see what develops from here Narper.

The man get to hire his coaches, unlike Law who get what the CWI, gives him.

Gibson is a proven bowling coach

having charl on board might have caused some conflict ...ideas, strategies etc

better to have 1 boss on board

You should know already that anything Narps says about Gibson should be discounted by a factor of infinity lol

It’s only natural that the greatest bowling coach in the history of mankind would want to be responsible for his own bowling unit.

On a slightly more serious note, “shallow talent pool?” I would swap the West Indies talent pool for the South Africa talent pool in a heartbeat.

We will see who will be proven correct wink

BTW it was the original Saffie KP who called him a lap top coach.

People change Narps. Bill Belichek failed miserably as coach of the Cleveland Browns and look where he is now. Possibly the greatest coach in the history of the NFL.

For purposes of clarity though, are you predicting that Gibson will be a failure as coach of the South Africa team?

Suh you tink the master plan was to give Gibson the head coach job and then double up his duty with that of the bowling coach for the same salary hence saving the bowling coach salary?

That was really a smart ploy and can only happen to a West Indian. The man was so blinded by the main contract for the big job he didn't see or care about the attachments ..... smile

Yes he will be a failure as HEAD COACH

His failure will be due to lack of man management skills

And he is smart enough to make sure he takes responsibility for fast bowling...his only strength.

What exactly would constitute failure as the head coach? Failure to be ranked No. 1 in Tests? Failure to make the ODI WC finals? Nonrenewal of his contract when it expires in 2 years?

1) moving down in the ICC ranking as a result of poor performances...team and key players
2) obvious dissent in the team
3) irrational selections and omissions
4) senior players making themselves unavailbale
5) dismissal before contract expiry date

Number 2 and number 3 are somewhat subjective criteria, but I’m cool with number 1, number 4 and number “4”. What about World Cups? That’s where South Africa has historically been most disappointing. That’s where they earned the choker tag.

Look, he is de biggest tief in football. Before deflate gate, remember how he had secretly had the Giants practice taped years ago? A team where he had been defensive coordinator by the way. And other complaints about him, but he seems to be coated in teflon.

.

Now if...RSA wins the WC....den he will be head coach for life...would be elevated to just below Mandela status
big grin

Gibson is a great bowling coach, that part i'm confident he'll be a great asset towards South Africa.

Gibson is a great bowling coach

This is being bandied around a lot. But how so? How much did he help the spinners? Did you notice he is bringing in a spin bowling coach for RSA?

What did he really for the WI bowling? Not much to work with? True...so where is the greatness?

On the other hand...He had a lot to work with in England...and England's attack was decent in England....not so decent outside of England....BTW didn't Sarwan et al murder a Gibson coached England attack in the WI?

How much did Gibson help spinners like Swan, Panesar and now Moeen Ali? recently Moeen has been praising and bawling for Saqlain to be retained by England.

What did Gibson do for Bishoo....after an excellent start in test cricket...

How did the Gibson coached attack do in India? RSA? OZ?
