Murray: WI need to strengthen squad

Former West Indies wicket-keeper and vice-captain, Deryck Murray, is contented with the 1-0 series win by the regional team in their two-Test series away to Zimbabwe.

But the ex-Trinidad and Tobago player and TT Cricket Board (TTCB) president insisted that the Jason Holder-led squad will need to be bolstered with a series against New Zealand on the horizon. He believes batsman Darren Bravo and bowler Sunil Narine need to be part of the Test team moving forward.

With Kyle Hope and Jermaine Blackwood having inconsistent returns, both in England and Zimbabwe, Murray hopes that selectors reach out to Bravo who is currently engaged in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Asked if captain Jason Holder may have to shoulder some of the blame for the WI’s inability to wrap up the match and complete a series sweep, Murray replied, “I sympathise with Jason Holder in many ways, because he was thrust into the role of captain a few years ago, when he was himself a junior member of the team, just finding his way in the game.

“It’s a very difficult situation for him to try to establish his own game. I think he has the potential to be a very good all-rounder for the West Indies but (I hope) the burden of captaincy would not retard his progress.”

oh well

Some don't seem to understand this
Some continue to blame Cameron for Bravo opting to play T20

He believes batsman Darren Bravo and bowler Sunil Narine need to be part of the Test team moving forward.

Some continue to call for the inclusion of Players who continues to express a disinterest in playing First Class and/or Test Cricket

Agreed. They were asked before the Test series and both said they wanted to focus on regional cricket but yet opted to play T20s.

You and either with us are you aren't.

jeje murray is a joke..
narine doesn't play FC cricket ( 4 day) and Bravo prefers the lighter form of competition..

notice he recommends 2 trini players, but the best TnT player E Lewis wasn't mentioned

Brendon Taylor retired from International cricket. But was reached out to by ZC cricket so that they want to give themselves every chance to improve.

Not saying just about Darren Bravo, but I believe good administration makes those minor changed every match / series with an objective to improve the teams chances of being successful.

But with WI, We lost to England and did not have any changes. We won the series against Zimbabwe which does not play many tests. I found us struggling with the bat and ball at the various stages of the match. But WI administration including the latest coach feels it is fine and there is no change needed. Surprising but understandable since WI objective is not to progressively improve but be competitive. As long as we are competitive in one test a series we are more than happy

Bravo is still one of the better batsmen in the region. Lately, t20 is doing him a lot of good with his batting where he has to score fast. He is beginning to score more on the onside. The stain that is left behind between the board and him maybe a bit too fresh right now but I believe he should be in the WI team along with Lewis and Cariah from TT. Narine is only interested in $$$ in t20 staying away from the pressure and politics from WICB and critics.

Good suggestion by Murray, but Narine's bowling seem to be on the decline, however Bravo inclusion is welcome along with the inclusion of a specialist bowler in place of the tourist Reifer or Kyle Hope.
