Well done, now go and show us what you can do at the highest level, that first name shows what your daddy thought,if you are half as good ,you'll be playing test cricket for a long time.I'm sure Gavaskar will no doubt be checking your scores.

seko 2017-11-06 05:11:03

Good change. However, a few more can be made to allow us to be a more effective team.

natty_forever 2017-11-06 07:52:06

In reply to seko... yes, but a working with the selection policy as is now.

dayne 2017-11-06 08:05:45

Congrats to Sunil, he is deserving of the selection, his F/C numbers are a little better that some of the present players on the WI team. However, now every regional team have a player on the WI team.

It's about time the yute get a shot at the big leagues. But so it go. When you come from our side of the island chain just being good isn't good enough. you have to be exceptional. Wishing the lad all the best.

natty_forever 2017-11-06 13:57:52

In reply to aliaskid13... well in all fairness, before, that was so. This time around it seems, seems, a more merit base selection policy in place, as well as a willingness to give players an extended run. At least no one can say he does not merit a place!

You have made a very perceptive Comment . Unlike Players from the so called " Big Four " who have Godfathers on the WICBC/CWI , and in the Sports Media . Sunil Ambris aint have any Godfather .

This is precisely why as You have stated Sunil Ambris has to work 3 times harder than Players from the Big Four .

In this forum I have stated that he needs to buy a Bowling Machine , so that he can be fully competitive in
Cricket . I would encourage him to
speak to Former Great Players in the
Region .

I believe that They would be happy to impart their total knowledge of Cricket to him . He must always be working on improving his game and remember making big scores in any form of Cricket demands the following
ingredients :

MENTAL & PHYSICAL STAMINA ; THAT ARE

GAINED BY BEING PHYSICAL FITNESS .

Sunil Ambris must also realize that
the West Indies Selectors are never
partial to Batsmen from the Windward
Islands .

Those goes way back to the days of
Alphonso Roberts & Ian Neverson , who
both played when Players from the Windward & Leeward Islands were banned from being on the West Indies
Team .

And this is something we've needed for some time. We finally look like we've identified our best players and we're giving them a better chance at doing well. The constant chopping and changing doesn't work and neither does throwing inexperienced players into the deep end. Bringing in one or two players at a time after they show consistent performance is the way forward. Makes you wonder how they never tried it this way before.

Only a few years ago the President, CEO, directors and two selectors were from the Leewards and Windward Islands, the CWI to is represented by a Vice President who is from Dominca, a number of directors from both territory and two selectors.
Are you telling the world, that the CWI looks after T&T, Barbados, Guyana and Jamaica players, and don't care about the Windwards?

Is the above true, or as usual, you continue to self-grandiose like the CWI.
I did a quick search of Roberts he played 7 fc matches for a total of 145 runs, highest score of 45 for an Avg of 14
1 test match for an Avg of 13.How did he got selected after 7 fc matches?

Maybe Openning can speak to Sir Everton on Roberts as Weekes and Roberts they were good friend. I can not find any information on Naverson.

It aint about whether days are gone or not :

FYI IT IS ABOUT BEING GROUNDED IN

THE FUNDAMENTALS OF PLAYING CRICKET .

IT IS ABOUT PLAYING A LOT OF CRICKET .

IT IS ABOUT MENTAL & PHYSICAL

STAMINA . THESE ARE THE KEYS TO BEING

ABLE TO BAT & BOWL FOR LONG PERIODS &

CUTTING DOWN ON DROPPED CATCHES &

MISSFIELDS .

All the above has to do with Mental &
Physical Stamina ; also being very
competitive in The International
Cricket Arena .

Sadly the Big Idiots in the governance of West Indies Cricket still have not yet figured this out ;
for many years now .

Ian Neverson made 90 not out playing against Truman & Statham in their prime , it made such an impression of Truman , that the next occasion the MCC played against the Windward Islands he asked for the whereabouts of Ian Neverson .

YOU DID NOT LOOK HARD ENOUGH IAN

NEVERSON IS THERE .

It seems that Comprehension was not one of your strong Subjects in School .

I mentioned Alfie Roberts & Ian Neverson , that in itself means that
I was writing about the days when
Players from the Windward & Leeward Islands were banned from playing Cricket in the Tournament that involved , Jamaica ; Barbados ' Trinidad & Tobago & Guyana .

I am very sure that You have read articles by me in this Forum praising
Sir Frank Worrell for opening the
Doors for Players in the Windward & Leeward Islands participating in the
Regional Tournaments .

But in your eagerness to attempt trying to score a point , you misread
what I stated .There were other Players who were also victimized , Bam Charles from St. Lucia ; Evelyn Gresham from Grenada ; & Alec Reid from Dominica .

Look up CHARLES OLLIVIERRE , first
& only Black Player who was a member of the first Team from the Region to
Tour England ; he stayed in England .He was known as King Charlie in Derbyshire .

The Story of how Charles Ollivierre got on that Team is very interesting .
Charles & his Brothers lived near the Victoria Park in SVG .

The man in charge of Victoria Park
knew the Ollivierre Brothers , and allowed them to play in the Park .

The Groundsman then got the Job to
be the Groundsman for the Queens Park Oval in Trinidad . He heard that they
were selecting Players to Tour England , and he told those in charge
about Charlie & one of his brothers .

Charlie & one of his brothers went to Trinidad , and of the two Charlie was
selected to be on the first Tour from the Region to go to England . It was
the people in Derbyshire who called him King Charlie for his Cricket prowess .

This is 2017, not 1960
Since the years of the players you mention, some of the greatest West Indian came from the Leeward Islands.
A number of players from the Windwards, plays cricket in both T&T and Barbados, so everyone knows the players.

Charles Augustus Ollivierre was a Vincentian cricketer who represented the West Indies in matches before they attained Test match status. Wikipedia
Born: July 20, 1876, Kingstown, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
Died: March 25, 1949, Pontefract, United Kingdom

Sir Frank was a Visionary, he fought for the underprivileged.
He first fought for guys like Sir Everton, the Gilchrist, he understood the region was not benefitting from all its cricketers.
He when about to have teams from the Windwards and Leewards, included in the regional tournament
Frank and Clyde played a roll, in having the poorest of poor, playing for their Island/country team.

Sir Frank Worrell had more vision then
than All those in the WICBC at that time .

What is truly sad is that these current Big Idiots relish being the
modern Day Mimic Men of those who they inherited the WICBC/CWI.

It is good to see you have a cricketer from SVG, to write about.
He was long before my time, and was one of the players that was discussed when I was growing up.
