Norm 2017-11-09 20:38:23

Good effort by the Leewards. Modern day 2-innings cricket is about strong bowling or dour batting to grind your opponent into submission.

Narper 2017-11-09 20:45:56

I am glad to see batsmen are putting a price on their wickets

I believe this is good trend...our recent batsmen have not been occupying the crease for long....very few of the current batsmen can bat for 3 sessions...

So...occupy the crease...and then work on rotating the strike and improving your SR

BTW....how many of the games are lasting a full 4 days anyway?

Do alyuh know Blackwood never batted more than 2.5 sessions before he made the test team...even thought he scored tons

openning 2017-11-09 20:55:39

In reply to Narper

Bro, this is survival, nothing about putting a price of wicket.
Viv, said this in his first game with youngsters, after he retire
Viv was his usual self in that game, Ryan Hinds batted just like the Leewards players.
Viv label the youngsters in that match, as survivors.

A batsman should never let a bowler, put him on the defence, for 90 overs.
Good bats would measure a bowler, and just before tea, the bat would do the talking

In reply to openning

Well you are talking a bout a 20 yr old youngster who is only playing his 13th Match so a 33 s/r is understandable. Montcin Hodge appears to be trying to get some form as he had a poor A Team series but I expected better from him as he is far more experienced. 25 s/r is unacceptable for his experience. Rotate the dam strike!

They both need to get tons from here.

aliaskid13 2017-11-10 09:58:09

In reply to voiceofreason

I think Hodge just batting slow to get to a hundred, and Carty is just following his lead. Either way I have no real complaints. They batting slow yes, but we look to be in control. Let's just hope they actually step it up once they reach their personal milestone or it will all be for nothing.

This what happens with survivors, the two continue to let the bowlers peg them back, one poker on any team is enough, but to have two at the crease, you are giving into the bowler.

CricketLuva4 2017-11-10 11:21:23

Given the similarities I'll ask this question:

Did WI's similar approach (KB and Powell painting) in the 2nd test vs Zimbabwe cost us the test match? We could have used an extra 20ov to bowl Zim out.

All teams need a grafter, but he should be surrounded by stroke makers.
We've seen Joe Solomon, Larry Gomes and Gus Logie all three were surrounded by great stroke makers.
Shiv had a few, his problem was consistency of his partners from 3-6

LI 357 for 7

Norm 2017-11-10 14:41:41

LI now 381-8. Permaul finally gets a wicket - after bowling about 50 overs.
LI batting slowly, but they are currently more likely to win this match. Guyana will have to bat very quickly and LI would have to collapse in their second innings for Guyana to win.
Guyana is equally responsible for the current unattractive state of the match, because they failed to dismiss the defensive-minded LI batsmen.

Norm 2017-11-10 15:01:43

Guyana 8-2 now. Johnson bowled by J Louis, leaving one on or about off stump that did not leave him as expected!
Louis looks to be a good prospect for WI. Strong build, smooth and confident approach to the wicket, and very good control of line and length.

Vishaul in. Drives a fuller ball from Louis straight back for 3.
Next ball from Louis moves off the seam a long way away from the left hander, and follows with one that nips back in a little to the left hander.
Hemraj is picking up the line quickly, and leaving them well. Drives Matthew nicely thru long off for 4!!!!

Norm 2017-11-10 15:41:06

A lot will depend on the LI bowling to support Louis and Matthew.
Louis continues. Short on leg to Hemraj, who pulls it nicely to square leg for 4! Hemraj looking quite good.

Good win by the Jaguars, thanks mainly to Sherfane, Vishaul and Bramble.

Keemo seems to have picked up an injury, and batsmen like Tage and Johnson haven't clicked yet. Hemraj looks decent enough in the absence of Hety and Shiv.

Otherwise, the Jaguars seem ready to roll over the Leewards in their backyard next week.

The Jaguars lost twice last year. Guess who beat them?

Skipper Cornwall to bowl now. Looking a bit slimmer.
Floats one on leg to Hemraj, who promptly whacks it with a straight bat over long on for SIX!!!! Goes to 19. Guyana goes to 30-2 in 8 overs.

Norm 2017-11-10 15:50:15

Louis continues. Vishaul and Hemraj watching him carefully - unlike L Johnson.

Guyana 33-2 in 9 overs. CH 19, VS 8.

Norm 2017-11-10 15:55:04

Cornwall, to Vishaul. Punches it past Bonner at silly point for 2. Rapped on the pads just outside leg. Leewards players appeal confidently. Not out.

Norm 2017-11-10 15:57:38

Stanny Simon to bowl, to Hemraj. Comms say he's 6 feet 5 inches tall and pacy. Bowling a full length on or about leg. Stroked beautifully by Hemraj thru mid wicket for 4!
Next ball is quite wide outside off. Hemraj reached for it, cuts it to Carty at point, who takes the catch!!!!

Guyana 39-3. Hemraj c Carty b Simon 23.

Norm 2017-11-10 16:01:11

Permaul in.

Cornwall to continue, to Singh. Drives to point and attempts a quick single. Louis retrieves quickly and whips a flat return to the keeper over the stumps, and Permaul is run out for 0!!!!

Guyana 39-4, and Shiv walks in, takes guard and hammers a bail into the ground to mark his guard. Takes his usual crabby stand.

Guyana 40-4 in 11 overs.

Guyana 49-5 in 15 overs. Vishaul 14.

Guyana will definitely have to bat much better for the rest of their first innings and in their second innings. This match is still far from over.

Between Tage and Chandrika, I would have kept Chandrika. Tage just doesn't seem to want go far in cricket. He focuses on ultra-cautious batting, which is obviously not bringing him success. He needs to be his own "big man" and bat in his own natural style. He can't do any worse than he is doing - trying to be like "daddy".

Shiv edged the ball into the ground and it popped up high, to be caught at slip. He walked immediately, knowing he wasn't out.

He was obviously very dissatisfied with the team's batting. Let's hope the team puts all of this behind it quickly and salvage something from this match.

From the way this Jaguar team is playing this match, something is not right within the team.. Chanderpaul edging a ball into the ground and walking, Bramble hoisting one to long off and being caught on the boundary off the last ball of the day...
Anyway Hurricanes, hurry up and drap lash in them. big grin

First you cussed the Leewards for batting slowly, without regard for them putting themselves in an advantageous position. Now you are cussing Guyana for batting carefully to save the match.

I wonder what advice you gave the Bajan team that got their asses kicked by an innings in 2 days in their own backyard last week.

Ah, well.

You cannot poke and expect that to be batting, what I saw from Tage his opening partner and Leon, reminds me of a night watchman
Tage or his partner never got forward to drive the ball, Johnson did a little better, when singh joined him.
You still have to bat, not poke.

Norm 2017-11-11 16:38:28

In reply to openning

You cannot poke

That sums it up. Let's leave it at that.

anthonyp 2017-11-11 17:05:39

Are there any other openers that can replace Tage and Chandrika? They both need to be replaced!

anthonyp 2017-11-11 17:49:22

In reply to WestDem

The only other opener that made runs in the recent 3 day league is young Perez and I think he's with the WI U19 team.. scored more runs than Chandrika and Tage.. had a ton and couple 50+.. don't think he's ready for the senior level though.. same for Yadram and Joshua Persaud..

De guys who scored runs in the league were middle order batsmen.. Ashkaya Persaud batted at 4.. same for Ricardo Adams..

Maybe Johnson could open.. and let the youngsters bat in the middle with Shiv and Cheesy..
