?It?s OK to be white?

Campaign rankles higher education

Internet trolls provoked outrage over Halloween by hanging “It’s OK to be white” posters on several American and Canadian college campuses.

The signs were reported at Harvard, Princeton, Auburn, the University of California Berkeley, the University of Kansas, Tulane and Western Washington, as well as the University of Alberta and the University of Toronto.

Campus officials typically removed the signs once they were discovered. The posters were condemned as “divisive” and “racist” by students and administrators alike. In several cases, the police were called.

The stunt was organized on 4chan’s “Politically Incorrect” board to show that “lefties & journalists hate white people.” Seeing “the media & lefties frothing at the mouth” in response to the signs would “nuke” their credibility, the author of the 4chan thread wrote, ensuring a “massive victory for the right in the culture war.”

'black isbeautiful' and 'black and proud' slogans seems just as appropriate as 'It's ok to be white'

america is a funny country yes

black isbeautiful' and 'black and proud'

That came about because of the black negative rhetoric that cause black people to believe.

It is to reinforce the image of barbie did not continue to denigrate black looks and feature.

U got it backwards

seem like the same shit to me.. obviously there are white people in America who feel marginalised for whatever reason in American society just like black people who felt to render black and proud slogan, so if they (whites) want to campaign 'It's ok to be white' then what is the uproar about? What is good for the goose should be good for the gander

All stupid American racial shit

Whites, generally come from a privileged position. They do not have to prove their relevance. It is assumed. Look at how black colleges came about. Same is true for black beauty or black Lives matter.
When you are at the starting block with a handicap of being black.

In the teaching profession, disability is being black.(able body and metally sound) why u think that is so?

Once again I will repeat "obviously there are white people in America who feel marginalised for whatever reason in American society" so that means if there are a group of white people in any American state who feel they are being marginalised in whatever aspect could be culturally, politically, economically in there community, school or at work then they can campaign 'its ok to be white' under the same premise blacks campaign 'proud to be black'. You are making historical references and trying to apply it to today's life in America when it may apply to some but not another. See the more people like you say this type of shit is more there will be campaigns like 'it is ok to be white' because its a reaction to your 1969 understanding of 2017 America, and obviously we have seen in recent years many white americans are becoming more vocal about this...so I expect to see more of the same in America

Black pride is connected to a minority subculture that developed in response to intense historical oppression. For most of American history, the non-integration of blacks into mainstream culture was imposed from the outside, so taking offense over the existence of a distinct black subculture would hardly be reasonable. It’s an authentic tradition that incorporated an ethnic element for extremely understandable historical reasons.

Things to consider

Saying that you're proud to be Black is a simplified way of saying, even after the countless generations of

Violence against us

Kidnapping and enslavement

Smear campaigns that portray us as unfeeling, ignorant, violent (or docile, depending on the time period), unworthy, and sexually irresponsible

Books, TV, movies, and commercials that seek to enforce the concepts that we are less important, less attractive, and not as intelligent as our white counterparts

Documentaries that have been twisted to insinuate that we are the sole people to blame for our own enslavement

News programs that seek to portray every cop killing as the victim’s fault, even when they were not engaged in any criminal activity at the time

News programs and movies that constantly focus on the intelligence, the creativity and the sophistication of white criminals vs. only the violence of Black criminals (watch a mob movie, for instance, then watch a gang movie. Hell, even watch a biker gang movie and you'll see a clear difference)

Having a government that often uses your color as a tool either by pitting people against you to get votes and get laws passed or pandering to you, in a good cop/bad cop fashion, to get your vote or to get laws passed

Words in our American lexicon that constantly refer to blacks as thugs simply because they have on a hoody or call blacks ghetto because they have a name that sounds black yet call whites unique when they have a name that is off the beaten path but sounds white.

Dealing with the effects of all of this… White supremacy, white flight, difficulty competing in the job market that has been conditioned to see blacks as inferior, being overlooked for a job because you have a black-sounding name, predatory loans, and the fear of being shot by the cops during a routine stop

And let's not forget that we face one or more of these things every day

cool cool

what is your point old man? Refer to my previous response about white people feeling marginalised and having the same right and freedom to campaign under a slogan the same way backs campaign under a slogan for feeling marginalised. This time read my previous comment and absorb it thoroughly before responding. smile

Def not Euro White, he is from Laventille Trinidad, a "proud Afro Trini" but as you say, he could be "self hating?

I do have sympathy for folks who heap scorn on their own- I believe past historical injustices are to be blamed. With respect to the poster in question, he is just naïve and harmless, in time, he will learn.

Whites, generally come from a privileged position.

This is an unfair description of the majority of Americans, and one that serves to perpetuate racial discrimination of every kind.

Race and religious tensions continue to dictate the course of humanity..

While the Obamas of the world seek to make one half of this divide feel empowered, the Trumps will stoke the fears of the other half..

Your comment to Dan De Lyan is on point but, but, but.. it's hard to argue the underprivileged attend in flocks to Harvard, Princeton, etc.
