Can he bowl some leg break, cause he's a better batsman than Bishoo

Devon continue to dominate because he simply head and shoulder above so many that we give opportunity to represent the West Indies. It is time we must be rational and give him the oportunities he deserve to help the WEST INDIES get out of this doldrum of poor performance. Hafeez cannot throw in a faster one any more to get him LBW with irrational umpires. Thanks to tv recording Devon can be only legally adjudge out once on the occasion when Hafeez was gifted his wicket on those poorly prepared pitches . Check him out playing real spinners unlike Hafeez who keep throwing and intimidating the poor umpires. Youtube.https://youtu.be/5wpJqGn6b8I.......https://youtu.be/iLoWfWBdZPE

In reply to seko If Marlon Samuels could be given 71 tests for 32.64 why Devon cannot be given more than 38 tests?

Post the link properly please.

Twinkle Twinkle little star
He will always clear our FC bar
Twinkle Toes is nothing but a falling star
When the bar continues to be low
He will always give them blows big grin big grin

Even a flickering match will briefly illuminate a pool of darkness!

voiceofreason 2017-11-12 08:27:19

This is the 3rd time in regional cricket that Devon has carried his bat! All 3 vs this opposition and at this venue.

Add to that only 14 times this has happened in regional cricket.

Wow!

What more can Twinkle Toes do ? He is only 36??? So he is no Methuselah!

evil

jacksprat 2017-11-12 08:48:43

Kudos to Twinkle Toes for finding his own level, and predictably dominating !! big grin

Sadly, he was repeated exposed when promoted to the highest level- that is the crux of the matter.big grin big grin

Forget the mediocre Marlon Samuels - He was never competing with Devon. Twinkle Toes' competition went by the names Chris Gayle, Darren Ganga and Wavell Hinds, etc. who largely outstripped him at the highest level.

NEXT!!! big grin

voiceofreason 2017-11-12 09:01:44

Darren Ganga and Wavell Hinds largely outstripped Devon at the international level?

Really? Please provide statistical evidence to suppprt this assertion. smile

jacksprat 2017-11-12 09:09:47

Why am I not surprised that you conveniently ignored the name Chris Gayle, who you were once advocating being dropped -along with Hinds-in favour of the hapless Twinkle Toes ? big grin

Gayle averaged 40-plus and Hinds averaged in the 30s - both some 10 points higher than Twinkle Toes- and Ganga, while averaging in the 20s still averaged slightly higher than him- hence those 3 "largely outstripped" Twinkle Toes!!!

I trust your comprehension outstrips Twinkle Toes' batting at international level! big grin big grin

Tagwa1 2017-11-12 09:21:33

Darren Ganga..outstripped. stop talking shyte.

CricketLuva4 2017-11-12 09:41:32

In reply to voiceofreason

But carrying your bat is also a function of having a shite team and not just being a good regional batsman. lol

Pacy 2017-11-12 09:54:15

In reply to Tagwa1

I agree that Darren Ganga was really not International standard. But when you consider that he had a higher average (24.5 Vs 25.7) it just reemphasizes that Devon like Ryan Hinds and Ganga did not have it in them to step up to International level.

voiceofreason 2017-11-12 12:27:46

In reply to Tagwa1 Ganga largely outstripped him by 1run average lol. Wave largely outstripped him too as he had more opportunities to do so. Same can be said for ole lead foot.

Hinds 45 tests

10’more tests to take his test average even lower?

You sure you’re a Devo fan? cool

You are one dumb piece of...work!

Twinkle Toes has an inferior average despite playing few tests and your conclusion is that he should have been given even more test to pursue his career-long futility? rolleyes

As imusic tried to point out to you, with more test his average would probably have been in the teens given the trend!

voiceofreason 2017-11-12 17:14:49

In reply to jacksprat Let me be as patient as can be with you this Sunday eve.

After 30 tests your Boy Leadfoot averaged 30.50 and ended up at 42. After 35 tests the your great the Helegant one averaged 28.02 and ended up 32 at 71 but before that he peaked at 36.28 after 57.

would probably have been in the teens given the trend!

The same way it could have probable been in the 30's or even 40's had he not been given the opportunity like Leadfoot and Helegance?

CricketLuva4 2017-11-13 09:10:48

In reply to voiceofreason

How old was Gayle when his average was 30.50 after 30 tests?

Devon is 36. For a sense of scale there were calls already for Shiv to be eased out of WI cricket by age 36, despite an average somewhere around 50 and an average since 2007 of well over 60.

Dummy, have a look at Devon's career profile by year- spanning more than a decade-and tell me if anyone but you would hazard a guess that he would have likely averaged even 30 in test cricket, had he been given more than his 38 tests over some 12 years! rolleyes rolleyes

Gayle & Samuels were repeatedly dropped and had to earn their way back. But anyway, this is not about them. I am not personally invested in either so whenever they were deservedly dropped I lost no sleep.

But back to the pertinent issue, if nothing else, the ending of Devon's career after such prolonged futility was akin to a mercy killing, to spare him further embarrassment!!

MAKE RUNS OR MAKE WAY!!!

Those matches he played were sporadic. You big MOO MOO.

Devon Smith played 36 out of 38 matches versus the best Australia, England, South Africa, Pakistan (Pelter Hafeez). He never was afforded the opportunity like Gayle, Hinds and Samuels to pad his average vs Zimbo and Bangla. So juts like the 32 average Samuels could pad his average by having one purple patch year why you think Devon Smith could not do the same?

Oh STFU.
MAKE RUNS OR MAKE WAY!!!

He is making runs now so he has done his part and merits selection. So STFU!

natty_forever 2017-11-13 10:33:10

In reply to voiceofreason... Devon in the same boat as Shiv, at lease Shiv has a FC average above 30. Again I say, the selectors have now learned from the Samuels mistake, so they not going make a Devon one.

jacksprat 2017-11-13 10:37:35

In reply to voiceofreason.

You are getting hysterical, as expected. Is Twinkle Toes a family memberlol

Devon Smith must be the most unique opener in the history of West Indies cricket.

Not only does he have the unique distinction of

carrying his bat on 3 separate occasions- as you

so helpfully alerted us- but no other opener can

lay claim to the unique "distinction" of scoring

88 runs in the first inning of the first test of a series, yet

aggregate 103 runs for that entire series (as he did in an away series in 2004 against Australia). big grin big grin

THAT HAS TO BE SOME KIND OF A RECORD !!!!!

No opener in the history of West Indies cricket -not Hunte, not Frederick, not Greenidge, not Haynes, not Gayle- can ever surpass that record, set by the legendary Twinkle Toes big grin big grin

One century in a career spanning 12 years!!

I Say that man should have been given 100 tests like the lead-footed Gayle (or Greenidge, or Haynes)!! lol

Just for comparison, at the end of their 38th test:

GAYLE had 4 Centuries and an average of 32;

HINDS had 3 centuries and a 33+ average;

GANGA had 3 centuries and an average 26+;

SAMUELS had 2 centuries (plus 2 other scores of 94 & 91) and

an average of 29+ -- all better than Twinkle Toes

at a similar juncture!!!

In reply to voiceofreason

So you calling Chris Gayle name in

the same sentence as Devon Smith?

CricketLuva4 2017-11-13 23:18:32

Btw; Gayle averaged 35+ after 30 tests. His average never dipped below 29 after his first 10 tests.

By the time he reached Devon's 38 tests, he had 4 hundreds including 2 in RSA against Ntini and Pollock and a double against a NZ attack including Bond.

Not to mention he was bringing a lot to the table in ODI cricket as an all rounder.
