Shiv is something else. I can't believe this guy is performing at the age of 43. It's truly remarkable.

Devin 2017-11-13 09:18:14

27,039 runs in FC cricket at an average of 54.51 with 77 100's. Staggering numbers.

In a world where optics is everything how does this now look?

ALL the great man had asked Big PU-C and Simmons for...was TWO test matches more....even the board Prez Cameron agreed the greatman deserved his two test matches....

but naah....in their obscene pompous autocratic haste.....Big PU-C and Simmons fired Shiv.....not realizing their turn was right around the corner....they answered to a higher authority....FIRED too !!!!!!weh Simmons deh today?

If he was fitter in the first half of his career, he'd be pushing 100 FC 100s by now.

openning 2017-11-13 14:01:04

In reply to Narper

Someone saw the senior players not participating in the regional tournaments, will devalue the competition.
Ramdin and Shiv performance should show fans, the competition will be at a higher standard, when the seniors are participating in it
Viv, Andy, Richie, Desmond, Marshall, Garner, Llyod, Gibbs and many others, made the regional competition and West Indies cricket strong.
We cannot blame crowd from staying away, the product is lacking the regional best

Devon Smith adds value too.

So let's put that (77*) into perspective...50+ centuries

1. IVA Richards..... 114 (centuries), (507 matches)
2. G. Greenidge...... 92 (523)
3. A. Kallicharran.... 87 (505)
4. G. Sobers......... 86 (383)
5. R. Kanhai.......... 86 (421)
6. C. Lloyd........... 79 (490)
7. S. Chanderpaul 77*(371)
8. C. Hooper......... 69 (339)
9. R. Marshall....... 68 (602)...surprise
10. B. Lara........... 65 (261)
11. D. Haynes....... 61 (376)

Quality here speaks for itself.

Lies, damn lies and statistics.

Shiv has 16 more 100s in 5 fewer matches than the all time great Dessie Haynes!!!

Ah but shiv runs are meaningless and selfish...

An anomaly here??? Nah, not quite. Shiv power of concentration has been able to put him right up there. I was sure not many opening batsmen would have graced this list and any other country thus highlighting the quality of Dessie and Gordon.

I see those top 6 played a lot more matches than Shiv, except for Sobers maybe.Did any of them play first class pass Shiv's age or did they just play more matches in a shorter career?

Only recently Shiv started to play county cricket.
From #1 Greenidge to #6 Lloyd...all played county cricket for donkey years...

Yep, when i saw the 77 you posted for Shiv, I was really taken aback. But really these are the same guys who shaped WI cricket landscape

By the end of the 2018 season I expect Shiv to be within touching distance of 100 career centuries (FC and LA). He has a maximum of 21 matches to do it (provided he stays fit and the weather doesn't intervene).

cool cool

Yes i feel that may be his goal and then retirement at 45.Perfect.
23 more is a lot though, lets enjoy his performances.

A legend in county cricket, he played for WI before he was 20, at one time Bim had Marshall, Teddy Griffith, Cammie Smith and the best of the lot Sir Conrad Hunte who was making runs as a 18 y.o .

Shiv and Faoud Bacchus Thrill Orlando

Down memory lane 2003

Shivnarine Chanderpaul, in the Orlando area for a short stay, smashed an unbeaten century in an exhibition game organized by former West Indian star and USA captain Faoud Bacchus.

There was an air of expectation in the pavilion as the two giants from Guyana, Chanderpaul and Bacchus, stepped out to open the innings for Orlando #1. And the large and enthusiastic crowd was not disappointed as the pair posted a magnificent century opening stand.Chanderpaul was in ripping form smashing a brilliant 102 not out studded with seven 4s and four 6s. Bacchus scored a polished 48 before retiring.

He also proceeded to share with me the fact that Kanhai was his coach when he first made the West Indies team. Chanderpaul was effusive in his praise of Kanhai as a coach and role model, and expressed eternal gratitude to Kanhai for the invaluable batting tips and insights he shared with him from his vast experience. Asked if he would be willing to pass on some of those batting tips to the youths in America, Chanderpaul smiled and responded: “Sure. Why not? I would be happy to help the young fellas.”

Discourse 2017-11-14 13:26:02

Since we're on the subject.......Desmond Lewis yardie

Yardies,.......anyone

Check this out

Matches.....3
Ins...........5
Not out......2

Runs 259, HS 88, Avg 86.33 (1970 - 1976)

What ever happened here?

A tidy if unspectacular wicketkeeper and sound opening batsman, Desmond Lewis made his Test debut within eight months of his first-class bow for Jamaica, largely thanks to 96 and 67* against the touring Indians.

But despite averaging 86.33 in the three matches he was discarded in favour of Michael Findlay for the 1971-72 tour of New Zealand

So the shannigans didn't really start a few years ago as some would have us believe
wink

Well, just maybe he couldn't 'keep'
