Is it ok to discriminate in some professions?

black 2017-11-13 12:23:14

Hint: People are being discriminated against everyday and it's not based on race.

What are some of these professions?

black 2017-11-13 12:28:41

Police, military and fire dept. are some professions where age could be a factor, I'm not talking about them.

ray 2017-11-13 12:48:54

You are over qualified

black 2017-11-13 13:04:53

In reply to ray

True, but that's not what I'm looking for.

Is it possible to meet the qualifications and still be discriminated against?

You can be qualified and downright ugly and I guarantee you that every TV station will discriminate against you if you applied to be an on air anchor.

Every profession will discriminate against you based on your appearance they just won't let you know that is the reason for not hiring you.

Correct.

There are also other occupations that discriminate, where the reasons are obvious and accepted.

YES!

Hooters do & rightly so.

If you're flat-chested & fat... don't apply. simple!

True, but those are the slick ones.

There are others that openly discriminate.

In Corporate America, client facing positions, marketing etc have a certain look requirement. razz
The short, fat, bald and ugly can crunch the numbers in the cubicles. wink

In many countries the men see "fat" as "beautiful". Many western men are brought up to think that Barbie is what a beautiful woman should look like. Others think a long neck, or small feet, is essential for beauty and will go to extreme measures to get these.

Discrimination holds sway on just about everyone in some matters.

"ugly" is not a protected class , plus it is very subjective, everyone thinks his wife is lovely.

Butt ugly is not subjective. lol

Some cultures might prefer "thick women" but I doubt if they prefer a 300lb plus mini bus.

Others think a long neck, or small feet, is essential for beauty and will go to extreme measures to get these.

Do you know why it's not practiced anymore?

Well, I've put it off for the past couple years. Hoping he goes on vacation and the fill-in is a petite 4'9" lady or something.

Or at least I'm allowed to down a few shots of rum beforehand.
