What are some of these professions?

Is it ok to discriminate in some professions?
Police, military and fire dept. are some professions where age could be a factor, I'm not talking about them.
Ask Emir
He is an expert at such
You are over qualified
In reply to ray
True, but that's not what I'm looking for.
Is it possible to meet the qualifications and still be discriminated against?
In reply to black
You can be qualified and downright ugly and I guarantee you that every TV station will discriminate against you if you applied to be an on air anchor.
Every profession will discriminate against you based on your appearance they just won't let you know that is the reason for not hiring you.

Correct.
There are also other occupations that discriminate, where the reasons are obvious and accepted.

What about the fat and ugly? Where is it going to be impossible for them to get a job?
In reply to black
Not at the Nut House.
In reply to Runs
How many fat chicks do you see climbing a pole at a strip club?
There are more.
Prostitution!
In reply to Kay
Yes, where it legal.
In Corporate America, client facing positions, marketing etc have a certain look requirement.
The short, fat, bald and ugly can crunch the numbers in the cubicles.
In reply to Kay
In many countries the men see "fat" as "beautiful". Many western men are brought up to think that Barbie is what a beautiful woman should look like. Others think a long neck, or small feet, is essential for beauty and will go to extreme measures to get these.
Discrimination holds sway on just about everyone in some matters.

HR is not there to protect the workers, it's there to protect the corporation.

"ugly" is not a protected class , plus it is very subjective, everyone thinks his wife is lovely.
In reply to camos
Butt ugly is not subjective.

Some cultures might prefer "thick women" but I doubt if they prefer a 300lb plus mini bus.

Do you know why it's not practiced anymore?

Well, I've put it off for the past couple years. Hoping he goes on vacation and the fill-in is a petite 4'9" lady or something.
Or at least I'm allowed to down a few shots of rum beforehand.
