In contrast, during the period from the mid 70's to late 90's, arguably Test Cricket glory days in terms of quality, batters back then did put up better and bloody fights against greater bowlers in similar pitches around the world.
I show this contrast only to alert the youngsters who compare great batters of yesteryears with those "greats" of today who are averaging in the high 40's and 50's.
There is no comparison, an average in the 50's today is probably equal to 30's in that era.

Recently, we see an attempt to change that defensive strategy. They had a belief that bowlers win matches and batters draw them. Outside of the India, they had a weak bowling attack, so they depended on batters to compensate.

True. It why I maintain batters of that time periods were a few notches above the modern generations.
