If selection is based on FC performance as stated by the selection committee. He has EARNED it. None of the excuses made so far holds any water.
wink

If they insist on one spinner..you think they should drop Bishoo...

Why insist on 1 spinner when some of your quicks are passengers? Asinine policy rolleyes

Whenever we need a 2nd spinner they should consider him although the consensus seems to be that Chase does a satisfactory job for now. wink

If anyone has a legitimate gripe with WI selection policy it is him and Miller. Total bullshit.

Andy99 2017-11-20 09:55:41

If u talking regional performances then Permaul is a lil boy in front of Miller.

And Cornwall, if fitness isn't an issue, is next in line due to regional performances and A team performances.

Anywho Permaul was proven to be ineffective at the highest level. If he has added to his bowling since then thats good but he is still behind Cornwall.
If he is still the same bowler then I wouldn't pick him. Unfortunate yes but sometimes this is just ur level.
Tough to get a second try at internationals.

All that being said, if someone other than Cornwall and maybe to a lesser extent Jacobs gets selected to WI before Permaul that would be an injustice because the others dont really have anything in them that makes them stand out ahead of him.

... huh?

In short:

- In terms of performance, Cornwall ahead of Permaul.

- Permaul was proven to be ineffective in international cricket.

- In terms of merit, he is only behind Cornwall and maybe Jacobs.

- I wouldn't pick him if he is still the same bowler as he was during his last international run.

- Based on his regional returns I would also not object if they do select him for WI duty.

- Lastly my WI team spinners pecking order would be Bishoo, Cornwall, Permaul/Jacobs then some distance and everyone one else.

Dont re-write history, most ppl, including many of his supporters saw he was lacking at that level.

Just because some years pass and he doing well in regionals, something he does every year, doesnt change the fact.

I agree that Permaul did not produce when given a shot and it's something endemic in WI spinners, they perform consistently well in regionals but cannot make the step up to the next level.

Of the lot I think Cornwall should get a look in since Permaul has been around forever like Miller (albeit unlucky to play only one test) since he is still young at 24....

natty_forever 2017-11-20 12:02:42

In reply to Andy99...the same case can be made for Miller, made for Permaul ... No? Miller tho only got one test.

Cornwall needs to work seriously on his fitness if he wants to represent West Indies but I have plenty of time for Premaul

True I said as much I think, Permaul has one thing going for him that Miller dont and that is his age

18 wickets in his 1st 6 test matches

Can you call below an international run?

Maybe you are thinking because he played 6 test matches against 5 different international sides in 3 years it is an international runsmile

2 test matches in Nov 2012...against Bangladesh...in Banglaland

1 test match in Nov 2013 against India....in India

1 test match in Dec 2013 against NZ in NZ

1 test match in May 2015 against ENG in Eng

1 test match in June 2015 against OZ at Sabina

Bowling stats per year

Do you not root for Jason Mohammed?....who has been playing regionals and being mediocre for donkey years....but suddenly has become an international ODI batsman...

I maintain...if Permaul was bajan he would have been given a 'long' run

natty_forever 2017-11-20 14:06:55

In reply to Narper... that depends, was the Bajans in charge of selection then?

In reply to Narper... that depends, was the Bajans in charge of selection then?

Andy is saying he had an internation run...I am refuting that

AND Bajans are in charge now...and in the last few seasons he has been breaking down the door in the 4 day competition
...

And BTW....I have championed Miller's cause here many times....he has been royally ignored by selectors present and in the past.

You notice what they have been doing...they have been taking these guys 9 Miller and Permaul) and throwing them in the limited overs cricket and expect them to perform like they do in regional 4 day cricket.

Andy99 2017-11-20 19:28:30

In reply to Narper

Ok so you got a point he didnt get a real run but still I maintain as a bowler, you can see enough in 6 matches if he has was it takes.

With JMo, u getting tied up, he performed for years in One Day cricket, to my memory he only had 1 bad season, its why before he was select he was averaging 40 odd in the format. In 4-day cricket now he is a shithound, tho with his exposure to international cricket, his record is improving.

Btw I dont have a problem with ppl calling for Permaul or if he is selected, I just saying why I dont support it.

And lastly, you are correct, selectors in the past, think that is key as they are changing now, have selected players based on performances regionally in one format yet given them the international opportunity in another format, and that is not fair.

Andy99 2017-11-20 19:30:13

In reply to Runs

Treated the guy shabbily despite his superior and consistent FC performances. The spinmeisters can spin all they want as I said before it has no merit and not based on the facts.

But again u not being fair here tho.
Because in the past many spinners have taken wickets in truckloads like Miller, Shilly, Jacobs, Khan, Nurse, Warrican, etc. yet u dont champion them....

My point is dont make it seems as if Permaul, the regional spinner, being left out is a special case.

natty_forever 2017-11-21 08:08:17

In reply to Andy99... his performance season after season is only comparable to Miller. Shilly disqualified.
