You're asking a legitimate question, Surya. I'll say no, he didn't take too long.

His first 50 took 80 deliveries, at that stage India were in a spot of bother and Kohli was trying to save the match. His second 50 came from only 39 deliveries, as the match situation changed and Kohli tried to force a result. He hit Lakmal - the destroyer for a massive 6 over cover to take him from 86 to 92, and then repeated the stroke off the same bowler to take him from 98 to 104. He spent his brief time in the 90's running down the track and looking to hit the pacers all over the park.

119 - Balls taken by Kohli to score this century - his fastest of the 18 Test hundreds. The previous quickest was off 129 balls against New Zealand in Wellington in 2013-14. Kohli scored 68.87% of batsmen runs since he arrived to the crease - 104 out of 151 - at a strike rate of 87.39. While the other batsmen contributed 47 runs at strike rate of 31.92.
Distribution of runs after Kohli's arrival in the third innings
Batsman Runs Balls SR 4s/6s
Virat Kohli 104 119 87.39 12/2
All others 47 147 31.97 5/0

Well, when you put it like that, even those who don't understand the finer points of the game, may still not understand.
