In Gros Islet, the Windwards bizarrely declared on 226-9 at the close of the first day's play. Veterans Devon Smith (107 not out) and Kirk Edwards (57) were the only batsmen to make runs against pacer Christopher Lamont, who took 4-52. Jamaica were 33 without loss at stumps.

robbo 2017-12-15 07:38:02

Lamont is a spinner

Headley 2017-12-15 12:26:41

Why did the Windwards declare? Was it to protect the tailenders? big grin big grin

What time does play begin?

yardman83 2017-12-15 13:07:10

I am not sure this Trevon Griffiths experiment working either. He has not really been scoring much runs.

Campbell also now out for his overnight score. 38/2. Lewis gets the wicket too.

mikesiva 2017-12-15 13:28:38

In reply to robbo

Is he?

Because he opened the bowling I incorrectly assumed he was a pacer.

A lot of spinners open the bowling in dung heap.

Which highlights the stupidity of the rules implemented by the CWI. Can you imagine two teams in the hunt for the title and one declares with 9 wickets down to avoid conceding?

So in this game, Jamaica is deprived of points not because of the acumen of the opposition.

mikesiva 2017-12-15 14:10:14

They have the same nonsensical points system in county cricket.

Jamaica eh lose any bowling points cause 9 wickets were already down. Allyu does criticize tings allyu doh even know about just for criticizing sake.

De options for de Windwards were to continue batting and try and get one more batting point for scoring 250 plus or put Jamaica in on a cool, windy night for 7 or 8 overs and try and take a wicket or two.

It didn quite work out but it made more sense dan piling up over 500 runs and not leaving yourself time to bowl out de opposition twice with rain around

typical in english cricket...to deny teams of bonus points big grin

Maispwi 2017-12-15 16:55:17

In reply to JoeGrine

Isn't it de job of a teams to restrict the opposition in all aspects of the game? The previous points system encouraged teams to play for first innings points and ended up with dull draws. This one at least encourages some thinking in the game.

Denying teams points have consequences and teams have to weigh the pros and cons of doing so.

Declaring with 8 wickets down means dat unless you have already gained maximum batting points the team is sacrificing potential batting points

Actually, if truth be told, Jamaica doing better than they have over the past couple of years. Allen, Campbell and Palmer are averaging over 40 with the bat, and King has done okay-ish with 32. Miller bowled brilliantly in his two matches, and Green and Leveridge have done okay, but the problem is with the other places.

The two Guyanese batsmen have been disappointing, and so has the wicketkeeper-batsman. Jacobs has been below-par, and so have the other bowlers.

On the penultimate day at Beausejour, a total of 14 wickets fell as the Windwards marched towards a rare victory. Veteran opener Devon Smith continued his good form with the bat, making 154 in the Windwards second innings total of 283 all out. Legspinner Damion Jacobs took 4-51. Chasing an unlikely 398 for victory, Jamaica reached 201-7 at stumps. Brandon King has topscored to date with 88, while medium pacer Kyle Mayers has taken three wickets so far.
