Why not

He is breaking down the door.

Phase 4 may be his lucky phase at the international level

At the same time consider Miller and Permaul too.

A proven waste of time would rather watch a young player struggle to find his way at the top level.

Not only do I have the nerve but he is a PROVEN failure. Sixty years from now he still will be a failure.

Move on.

seko 2017-12-14 18:38:36

Ray123, your mind is as negative as any human mind can be. Selected or not selected Smith will score and the West Indies will fail unless we select players who deserves to be selected by their performance.
Long live Smith.

Smith still has the mental block against spin. Apart from that, he woulda been a good opener. Surprise regional spinners does bowl off spin to him from over the wicket still. Swann and Hafeez tortured him from around. Bowling over, hard to get him LBW and he'll play you more comfy from there.

WestDem 2017-12-15 12:34:31

Based on performance, Devon deserve a recall...I hope he get a recall and embarrass those pretenders!

BeatDball 2017-12-15 13:17:45

And it will be the last! Don't diss DS!
cool

runout 2017-12-15 13:45:03

Yes, Devon deserves a shot. He is much better than Powell. The problem is Devon is 36...do you invest in the future, or do you go with performance?

Headley 2017-12-15 13:50:22

In reply to runout

Bring him back. He's no worse that the others. He may be better. The thing about Devon is that he has no godfather and no special passport. If he does not perform he's gone.

runout 2017-12-15 13:54:12

In reply to Headley

Did that twice already...
lol lol

Ray123 2017-12-15 15:20:27

Devon smith has played 38 Test avg 24 and 47 ODIs avg 24.
We have already realized that runs at our regional level does no mean you will be successful at the higher level.
Good God. Let the young men find their feet at the Test level and leave Devon Smith where he is. I would rather have Chanderpaul in my Test or even T20 than to have Smith play for the West Indies again.

Tried. Weighed and found wanting.

Not at all. Going from the stats Ray123 posted above...

If he was averaging at least 10 points higher in TEST, and that's a lowly 34... he would perhaps still be in contention.

16 points higher after 38 test... @ 40 avg.... and he would probably be a regular.

So you're saying jesus-like numbers are averaging 34 or 40 in Test......???

Hmm....

Dude, talking about mental block, Devon seems to be unable to transition and maintain his local performance to the international stage.

If they will pick people on performance, then will they venture to pick Chanders?

just asking!

Yeah, allyuh talk nah!!!

I'm a big Devon Smith fan, but yo can't argue for someone who has an average of 24 after 38 test match. Finger spin has been Devon's demise. Otherwise Devon would have been playing international still. Saw him handle plenty good fast bowlers well, then soon as finger spin come on, that was the end.

Usman Khawaja taking plenty heat for the something and he currently has a test average above 40....

jen 2017-12-15 21:52:14

In reply to CricketLuva4

exactly my point. Saw Smith handle some really good bowling from Anderson and Broad, did all the hard work, Swann came on and that was the end. Smith plays fast bowling really well, got a wonderful century in 2004 against England at Sabina Park when Harmison was doing damage.

So how many times has Powell made it through the first spell against any of those bowlers? How many times has Powell batted for a session?

runout 2017-12-15 23:30:20

In reply to Larr Pullo

Give it a fess man. Devon is a first class bully. And not a good one at that.

Everyone of allyuh bawling how the tracks in the Caribbean are flat. And then allyuh bogging up a 36 year old for a return to the test arena, where he was found wanting. Shiv could bat better than this pretender with one hand behind his back. But allyuh don't want him near a windies side. Go figure. you

Yeah allyuh talk nah!

He has to be considered the best batsman ever in regional first class cricket. What a phenomenal year he is having!

What kind of statement is that?

Unless u meant best regional FC bat who failed at international level.
