Former West Indies fast bowler cum coach Reon King feels that the Digicel Test Series between West Indies and Sri Lanka will be a battle of the middle orders.

King, who was appointed coach for the Guyana Cricket Board President’s Select XI which took on Sri Lanka in the visiting team’s warm up game at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, is in a good position to comment as he paid close attention to all the trends in the entire three day game. “The batsmen don’t seem to be absolutely comfortable with the slowness in the surface here as yet, maybe because they were just in Australia or are probably because they are used to a bit more bounce in their own surfaces back home, they struggled a bit with the lowness of the bounce on the track we played on,” King said.

Sri Lanka 492-5 decl. (Malinda Warnapura 132 ret., Tillekeratne Dilshan 101 not out, Mahela Jayawardene 99, Chamara Silva 51 not out, Thilan Samaraweera 36, Michael Vandort 29, Kumar Sangakkara 22; Shamarh Brooks 1-20).

Yup..sure as hell looks like the Sri Lankan batsmen struggled alright.

Gwaaaan Kingie

And he also thinks that swing which Vaas in particular thrives on will not feature too much in the Digicel Test match.

Tell de quacks Kingie smile

It will definately come down to the middle orders. I don't think Vaas is the same player he was two or three years ago. He is still good but not someone to fear, the problem will be Muralitharan and the other spinners. Sarwan, Samuels, Chanderpaul and Bravo will have to do a lot of batting for us to do well in this series. They are the best players of spin we have and Sri Lanka will be playing a few guys who can turn their hand over.

I hope Sarwan can find his groove right away. We'll really need him to hit some good form right away.

Did not know Kingie a coach. Me think Ganga should learn from this move... smile

When wickets start to tumble we will find who really are the duck merchants of WI. wink

Whereas Sri Lankan batsmen will have a run fest!

Someone put a mike in front of Kingie, what you expect, that he said nothing. The man had to say something but I didn't thing he would have said all this trash.

Not only did you name neraly all the batting!.......you left out `Onry...why?

defeyeant 2008-03-20 09:49:54

of course its about the middle order cause any battle of openers or bowling we lose outright

The main idea is about middle order. Onry is not middle order, the last time I check, right

I dont think there is anything to fear from Vass either!

In 7 matches vs WI he took 43 wkts......39 from 5 in Sri Lanka.....but only 4kts from 2 @ 50.75 in WI

......as a matter of fact he must hate playing in WI and India....of his 157 wkts away...only 11 in India and of course that meagre 4 in WI.

I dont think the poster was thinking about the "subject" being discuss....else he wouldn`t name, all the middle order as being our best players of spin!

Perhaps, just perhaps, Gayle is not among our best players of spin

`Onry is as good a player of spin as anyone in the team.He is flat footed to "pace".....but moves reasonable well to slow bowlers.....and on a flat pitch,he will murder any bowler

Vass will take care of the top order while Murali take care of the middle order.

Watch the flow on Saturday.

Sri Lanka is missing stream line bowlers, I guess amarsinghe is still in sri lanka and may not play 1st test but not sure. If WI bat first they have the advantage.
