by CHRIS GAYLE (Diary provided by Digicel)
I have to start this first diary entry for this new Digicel Home Series with something that I have talked regularly about before. What I have always stressed on in the recent past is that our batting needs to do the job, we have to get the runs on the board.
For the last couple of months the bowlers have been doing a terrific job for us. Jerome Taylor, Daren Powel, Fidel Edwards and Dwayne Bravo have been turning up and working hard on the field.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE WICB TO THE WEST INDIES TEAM
Tomorrow you engage one of the leading teams in the world in a Home Series that everyone in the West Indies, and all fans of West Indies cricket everywhere, hope will result in victory.
Our supporters, and even our critics, acknowledge that the teams performance in South Africa demonstrated that a turn-around has indeed started. The team displayed the fighting spirit, positive attitude and togetherness that is the criterion for success in modern cricket.
Now we are on our home soil and we have the support of thousands, even millions, of fans who are with us in heart, soul, body and spirit.
Tomorrows match, and in fact the entire series, is the acid test of our resolve. As players you have been richly rewarded for your efforts on behalf of the West Indies. The people who have gained the least and suffered the most, some patiently and others vociferously, are our fans. Many of them are still with us, hoping to see the resurgence that we continue to assure them will happen.
I am a believer. If you have the same belief in yourselves as I have in you, we will beat every other team in the world. However, as our representatives on the field of play you are the only ones who can make it a field of glory and show the world that the West Indies is on our way back to the pinnacle of success.
All the best to you.
The Honourable Dr. Julian R. Hunte, President

Gayle should be thankful the WI do not have quality players, because he would not even be in the team.
Right now it's a race card taking place. How did Benn got picked over Jaggernauth?
This is the first year Benn took some wickets to catch the eye, where as Jaggernauth has been one of the leading wicket takers in the WI for the past three to four years running and he is by no means a rabbit with the bat either!

That statement is silly and revealing on so many levels.

The truth always offend!
I knew this statement would alarm a lot of people, but lets face facts and don't pretend as though it's not true. That's an issue all over the world and within us, in Politics, in Religion, in Sports, etc, etc,..... So don't try to hide that fact with me.
Then whats the reason for Benn being picked over Jaggernauth? I am really interested in hearing your reasoning.

This guy has been producing year after year waiting for his number to call. He even has more wickets than Benn thus far this season and still was not selected.
It's hard to over look my statement for many reasons. This is not a secret to anyone! It is all around us. We see it, we feel it, we know it and we live in it. Either on the receiving end or the giving side of it.
I am not saying that Benn is not a good bowler or do not deserve to be in the team. However, Jaggernauth should have been selected ahead of him by miles.
You guys know it but just don't want to admit it!

Point.
Jaggernauth is a better batsman than Benn.
Has a better cricket record than Benn.
Has a better cricket brain than Benn.
Has a better discipline record than Benn.
Can field better than Benn.
Ryan Hinds is a slow left arm option just as good as Benn.
There was no need to pick 2 spinners in the 14 man squad the selectors knew from the start their choice but were embarrassed into including Jaggernauth by his performances. What were they looking for in the period between naming the squad and match day? These things are not made clear to the public. Until some intelligent answers can be found for these questions the public is left to speculate.
Note to the wise we have entered this match with an opening bowling pair with a combined average of 83.39 runs per wicket and expect to win the game. WOW good luck.

Come on People.
Gayle has never been a batsman!
He has always been a swinger with good timing and luck. Teams have studied him and now they have his number. The guy bats on glue!
Unfortunately, he never made the adjustment with his technique.
"In my opinion, always an exciting batsman when he gets going, but never a good one."

Hopefully we, the batsmen, can get the runs on the board now and give the bowlers something to work with and as a team we can take it from there. It is not going to be easy, we are up against a top class team in Sri Lanka and they have one of the best attacks in the world. The reason I say one of the best attacks is because you have the likes of Chaminda Vaas and the world record holder for the most Test wickets Muttiah Muralitharan. Those two are the main strike bowlers and we all know how experienced those guys are. We are up against it but we are up to the challenge ...
To score runs on a slow wicket is not easy, you have to focus on occupying the crease a lot more. Shot selection is crucial, especially when you are driving. You have to be very careful how you drive.
West Indies 1st Innings of the series (replying to Sri Lanka's 476-8 dec):

Dear Mr Gayle
As it is now
three years since you made a test century and you are in the team as a specialist batsman, I suggest that you find the nearest mirror, take a long hard look at it, and then go and find a book that gives you the names of some of men that represented the West Indies as batsmen before you were even born.
In doing so, you might learn to behave in a more respectful manner towards West Indies cricket fans and
find better uses for your time.
Yours sincerely

'Was Ganga a black man' - Kept performing in the domestic competion, had to pick him to open and he is not an opener
'Is Ramdin a black man' - At the time no other choice and under pressure right now
'Is Mohammed a black man' - Never got a fair chance
'Is Emrit a black man' - Looked promising at the time with good performances
'Ish Shiv a black man' - Is the best in the WI
'Is Sars a black man' - Is one of the better batsmen around
'Is Chattas a black man' - Deserves a chance
allyuh so silly is no joke..
You still didn't give a reason why he did not get picked!
I did not see one, hence the reason I suggested what I did.
Whats yours smart guy?
