CaribbeanCricket.com 2008-03-27 10:39:48

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has cancelled the planned tour match between the West Indies A team and the Sri Lankans because of "flight problems."

No further explanation was provided.

WICB is ah real cake shop lol

OVAL291 2008-03-27 11:02:08

good strategy, don't give the opposition any further match practice....

defeyeant 2008-03-27 11:02:48

so is flight problems involved with getting our players to tobago? planes doan fly to trinidad no more? i thought that place was a regional hub.

WICB is the best

ray 2008-03-27 11:02:50

In reply to OVAL291

suh WIndies don't need the practise?

In reply to defeyeant

they gon start using boat soon lol

gvenkat 2008-03-27 11:05:28

Honestly think it's about time WICB is dissolved.. this is the least they can do... and they bungled it up

Elsie 2008-03-27 11:16:38

Well the ferry from P.O.S. only takes about two hours, so there is really no excuse for this.

And the airline has been known to add additional flights based on same day demand...

This is not a transportation problem.... something fishy here...

JahJah 2008-03-27 11:18:08

In reply to ray

All Windians will get practice this weekend except for the Jamaicans!

CW 2008-03-27 11:20:31

Are they talking about flight as in aircraft or flight as in everyone cant read Murali

unitsypher 2008-03-27 11:26:09

Only the WICB!

Just out of curiosity does anyone know who were the players selected for the West Indies A team?

Tobago is a dottieeee wink

WICFan 2008-03-27 12:09:06

Why did they not organise a practice match against a Jamaica XI instead, Jamaica don't have a match this weekend.

Kurt 2008-03-27 12:18:03

In reply to WICFan

... becos Jamaica is at the other end of the Caribbean from Trinidad.

Sheeesh.

Hendra 2008-03-27 12:20:41

In reply to WICFan I believe its a finance thing. This Test match in Guy did not make any money and to have to pay more to get guys together from different countries would have cost some; so the Board may have decided to CALL IT OFF FOR THAT REASON.

Disciple 2008-03-27 12:31:47

Translation: Damn, we just realize that the game is a couple days away and most of the players involved in Carib Beer matches. The only ones available are some yardees and some under 19’s and the yardees following the lead of captainfleee and fraid to face vaas. All parties better off if we call of the match. smile

DAVE400 2008-03-27 12:37:58

In reply to Disciple
Dis cancellation is a shame ..but WICB..what you expect ..life goes on ..

dmad4car 2008-03-27 14:02:14

In reply to DAVE400 I just came back from the Shaw Park Ground , now I know the real reason for the cancellation . There is a Backhoe, a Six Tonne Roller and a Man operated Jumping Jack Compactor hurriedly working on erecting a fence on the south western end of the groud. Also just last week Chief Sec. Mr London was quoted as saying that it would be a great challenge to get the ground ready on time.

crapaud 2008-03-27 14:11:54

I think this is a smart strategy, the results of which will be seen later.

We are in the era of off the wall strategies. Gayle did his bit by making Bravo open and dropping himself down the order. It almost worked!!!

bobby 2008-03-27 14:19:29

very fishy. I can't remember seeing a Team being announced, so who was playing?

And please don't say that WICB is a cake shop. This is an insult to all the hard working people who manage and operate successful cake shops in every little village throughout the Caribbean.

ram 2008-03-27 14:39:24

We are playing mind games with Sri Lanka, this is WI best det to beat them - screwing with their brains....

dcbreds 2008-03-27 17:19:35

In reply to CaribbeanCricket.com

I really can't believe this. How de f... they expect the team to excel when they cannot organise a simple match.

Hunte should resign post haste!

Admin 2008-03-27 17:22:22

Well, the half-baked rumour mill has it that Carib Beer demanded that its game (TT v Barbados) be the only game in town.

The WICB buckled and cancelled the A team game. As usual, take half, leave half.

Even more incredible.

This is the first time I noticed that one game was in Trinidad and one in Tobago. In other words, WICB cannibalised its own market.

I cannot believe the stupidity of these guys.

Mets 2008-03-27 17:34:29

In reply to Admin this is flacking unbelivable, ICC and SL board should cxl the rest of de tour. WHAT NEXT WICB WILL DO???????

GOOD TING CRICKET IN NORTH AMERICA START SOON, AN HEAR DEM SOFT BALL PEOPLE START AREADY

pufftrini 2008-03-27 17:56:21

The WICB is a flippin JOKE. Why do we continually put up with this kind of shyte???????

dcbreds 2008-03-27 18:03:07

In reply to pufftrini

Man, we just had a test match that had the same level of turnout as a Carib Cup game in Guaracara Park.

Prior to the test matches, what level of marketing was there for this series? They have made no attempt to spark ANY LEVEL OF INTEREST for these games.

It is shameful, but they believe that they have done their duty by getting the Digicel deal (which, year after year, is paying out less than what C&W would have paid), the World Cup money and the television deal.

They are idiots and should be shot with shite! evil

Scar 2008-03-27 18:08:42

Why the uproar if Sl doh get a practice match? Many a time WI travle and get one lanky panky game and then go into two test matches. WICB planned dat for once !! lol

Daya 2008-03-27 18:32:10

I can say definitively (my bona fides can be testified to by several on this board who know me personally) that the claim that the match was canceled because of flight problems is unfortunate at best and a rank untruth at worst.

The claim about CARIB pulling the plug is also untrue!

Chrissy 2008-03-27 18:39:20

In reply to Daya

Expose dem bro.

thefan 2008-03-27 18:43:54

In reply to Daya

So what are you saying here, that the whole shebang aka WICB is a totally and irrecoverably incompetent and reckless organization that is incapable of getting anything right or is it that SL decided that they didn't feel like playing another game before the 2nd test and WICB simply bended over and took it like JahJah?

The management of WI cricket over the past 20 years should be documented and dissected for instructional materials to introductory management student in the region. "
The sub title of the course should be, How not To Manage.

Admin 2008-03-27 20:06:11

Here's some additional info from Tony Deyal, WICB corporate services manager:

The ceo clarified that the sri lankans called him and asked to call off the game. We would have fielded a team of sorts if they wished because we could not get flights for players from jamaica etc I know because we tried. In the end the sri lankans went to tobago where they will have a practice session on one of the days. Colin murray had nothing to do with it- carib is not the series sponsor

Take half, leave half, etc.

This was a scheduled game, it involves budgetary expenditure on the part of the home team. How can the touring team Call and ask for the match to be canceled? Who Paying these Bills.

This is like someone ordering an anniversary cake from a cake shop and when the Cake is baked S/he decide they no longer wanted it.
A good cake shop would have taken a no refundable deposit.

dcbreds 2008-03-27 21:20:31

In reply to Admin

Every explanation seems worse than the last one. Can you please remind them that when they are in a hole you should stop digging?

Wait, this WICB. They accustomed digging themselves deeper in de crap.

jk2s 2008-03-27 21:29:24

Did SL decide that they do not need any further practice matches.

They must have thought that beating the official WI team was easy enough that they can enjoy their break without playing any more cricket....

What a change of events, from WI considering SL as minnows and not playing a Test series with them for a very long time to now SL not needing practice games anymore to face the WI..

when you're dealing with a bunch of incompetent, rattish, corrupt and jackassish folks who are willing to bend over and get shafted and treated like a harlot by foriegners but denigrate their own, what do you honestly expect?

Julian Hunte has become the biggest YES man in world cricket

notluom 2008-03-27 22:04:26

Listen up here peeps the WICB now has some fifty something million from world cup to play with so who cares about this series and the ones to follow until the money done again let dem grawn cancel the Assie series too and the Sri Lanka ODIs. Management after management same darm thing.

cricket_jumbie 2008-03-27 22:15:41

I agree with the WICB to cancel the game. F Sri Lanka.

are you serious skip??

the loser here is wi cricket. all the players who would have benefitted from the game are left with the sh!tty end of the stick.

SL will not lose this series. our youngsters would have been better served by the exposure to a level of cricket much higher than dung heap.

newdread 2008-03-27 22:19:21

I usually try and avoid posting on threads like these given my past wotk history and involvement with cricket in the region. But now that I am "just" a fan like most posters on the MB......

What kind of rassclaat fuckeries are these jokers trying to foist on the public as excuses for the tour match being cancelled. I see my good friend Daya exposing Deyal's liard rass about flights...and trust me, he would know.

Then... what kind of shit quote is being attributed to the CEO? Is yesterday the Board was looking about flights for the WI A team to play a match that was a part of an agreed tour MOU from 5 months ago?

I see people on here talking about management skills this and management skills that....maybe if we had a few less Doctors in charge....the patient wouldn't be so rassclaat sick....

I agree that you can't be a dummy and successfully deal with some of the economic and legal issues that face sports governing bodies....but operations and logistics requires only a good dose of common sense.....which is clearly one of the biggest oxymorons ever.

I weep for West Indies cricket.....we are the fucking laughing stock of the rest of the cricketing world....and no amount of spin, PR or letters of exhortation from the President and CEO before each series is going to make one bloodclaat iota of difference.

sad

Maybe now they will announce the names. Not a clue was given.

WI cricket needs to be dismantled. How could they have run a World Cup last year and now can't get to Tobago ? Boggles the mind.

The only thing more deadly than a Murali doosra is West Indies Board's ineptness.

I mean before the tour was arranged, the WICB organised the fixtures for the Carib-Beer Series, they would have known Jamaica would have had a free week.

Thanks for the endorsement!

Now here's an additional perspective. Last year for CWC with ALL the movements that had to take place, the airlines were able to satisfy the demand. Fears of compromised inter island air travel were not realized and for the MOST part everything was sorted out with a minimum of inconvenience. WHAT WAS THE DIFFERENCE??

Could it be:
1) Professionalism
2) Proper advanced planning
3) Regular, open frank communication.
4) Honesty and Integrity
5) Mutual respect

That which the airlines were able to achieve with your guidance and input was a highlight of my professional life and to now be faced with a situation where rank untruths poison the best efforts of the airlines to facilitate cricket movements in the Caribbean is at very least disappointing. This nonsense has been picked up by Cricinfo and the lie has now been promulgated worldwide.

Nonsense! Arrant nonsense!!!!!!

Coach's Corner.

No good players to select for an " A" team.

Ground in Tobago not yet ready.

Lankans prefer to see Tobago than playing cricket.

Carib pulls the Plug on this one.

Take Your Pick

This one is allowable. No explanation is needed.

One of the few times when they show some common sense. Why provide the opposition with match practice?

fatman 2008-03-29 20:24:38

I have long hoped (against all hope) that West Indies cricket could shake off the doldrums of the past 10-15 years and once again be a force in world cricket.

Symbols carry much power. This is symbolic of one thing..... the end.

BerksOwl 2008-03-30 13:26:02

In reply to Star

The West Indies A team would have gotten much, much more out of the match than the Sri Lankans. It's the development of our own A team that's at stake.
