Holding retired in 1987.... Viv became captain in 84/85... that's a good three years later. So please... don't mess up the place.

Michael Holding retired from the game at 33 while still at the height of his powers. He could have gone on for years to come.

I know you did not get that impression from reading Holding's book.In his book he describes the deleterious effect on team morale the behavior of Gordon Greenidge caused and the inability of both the captain Richards and the Manager Camacho to do anything about it.
