Where’s the marketing plan for Trelawny?

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

How much longer should Jamaica’s tax payers bear the cost of maintaining the Trelawny multi-purpose stadium?

Kensington ownership dispute settled

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

It appears that the dispute over ownership of the Kensington Oval facility is being settled amicably, with some important spin-off benefits to the Barbados Cricket Association.
They include:
* A guaranteed lease payment of $1.6 million a year, increasing by a minimum 2.5 per cent annually.
* No risks with respect to the selection/non-selection of Kensington Oval by […]

Becca on ICC anti-expansion move

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Tony Becca disagrees with the ICC’s plan to limit the number of associate teams in the next World Cup tournament:
Apart from putting money first, apart from greed and apart from bowing to the demands of a rich team like India, in their opinion it would be catering to the traditional teams, it would rob the […]

RIP Stephen Alleyne

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Stephen Alleyne, who headed the Barbados Local Organising Committee for Cricket World Cup 2007 this year, died suddenly Monday morning. Alleyne was also a former president of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) and a long-serving WICB director. He was 47 years old.
* Sad, tragic news. My sympathies to the mourning family.

Cozier’s bizarre conclusion

Monday, August 20th, 2007

Tony Cozier thinks the selection of Pedro Collins for the 20/20 World Cup is concession from the selectors that the left-arm pacer should have been in the recent tour party to England. Help me understand this: A good bowler (who can’t bat or field) makes a 20/20 side and this is somehow an admission […]

What did the World Cup do for us?

Friday, June 29th, 2007

A sad (but predictable) tale of greed, gullibility, incompetence and poor decision-making. Unfortunately, the people who had no say in this catastrophe are the ones left holding the basket.

Doghouse makes news

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

I find it incredibly amusing when the CaribbeanCricket.com penthouse/doghouse feature triggers a news story.

An empty dream

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Mike King: We wanted to host the best ever World Cup. It was just an empty dream.

Pure ignorance

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Andrew Miller: How many ICC officials does it take to change a lightbulb? At least a committee of five, none of whom will have read the instruction manual, but each of whom will have a louder and more forthright opinion than the other about how best to do it. If that reads like the start […]

BC hits nail on head

Friday, April 13th, 2007

BC Pires hits head of nail, dead center:
The team is not without blame; but to hang everything on 11 day-jobbers would be to, once again, ignore the fabric and seize hold of the frills of a problem going beyond all boundaries. The West Indies cricket team is only a symptom (even if the most glaring) […]

Ponting: Worst facilities in the world

Friday, April 13th, 2007

The West Indies may have made a concerted effort to build infrastructure for the cricket World Cup, but Australian skipper Ricky Ponting is unimpressed and feels the training facilities in the Caribbean continue to be the “worst in the world”.
“Since I was here for the first time in 1995, that’s 12 years of touring here, […]

Lt Col Nuruddin Khawaja, unmannerly

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

CaribbeanCricket.com roving correspondent Michelle McDonald is verbally roughed up by Lt Col Nuruddin Khawaja, a member of the ICC anti-corruption and security unit:
I don’t wish to be treated special. Just tell me what my boundaries are and I will comply. Well, today, in my own (adopted) country, I got the shock of my life during […]
