Why Send Lawson to Australia?

Friday, October 3rd, 2003

In the Barbados Advocate, Adrian Jackson is questioning the logic of sending pacer Jermaine Lawson to Australia for remedial work on his illegal bowling action. Jackson argues that the decision to send Sarwan to Australia a few years ago turned out to be a poor decision and wondered why out own bowling greats have not been used by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).

In the same newspaper, Dorian Bryan issues a call for two separate West Indies senior teams.

I’m so used to commodity news and viewpoints from the West Indies media, particularly out of Barbados, that these two columns were a breath of fresh air. I might not entirely agree with what either Jackson or Bryan has to say but the imaginative thinking is worth applauding. It’s certainly better than yawning through the oblique, fawning, toothless columns from certain big-name journalists.
