Cozier’s double standards exposed

It bothers me. It has been bothering me for a few years now but it has become unbearable now and must be discussed disclosed. Allow me to pose the question. Why is it when the West Indies team is doing well chief commentator critic Tony Cozier is so subdued, disappointed almost? Why is he so obviously reluctant to offer genuine credit and praise? Why does he do so with flippant disappointment?

On the flip side, at the slightest hint of anything remotely negative the doyen of West Indies cricket journalism is the first to make a mountain out of a molehill. He rants and he raves, he broadsides and tears apart. He rips the team, the players (especially the players), the WICB (no surprises there), the selectors, the management team, everyone to shreds. He is triumphant in verbally destroying the players in particular.

Yesterday in discussing the wholly irresponsible Kevin Pietersen dismissal Cozier (like the other commentators) were almost apologetic. They treated the issue as if it were a Sunday afternoon village match so much ought not to be made of Pietersen’s reckless shot. Had it been, let’s see, Chris Gayle for example who had gotten out in a similar manner Cozier would have been as red as those Digicel logos fuming and spewing venom, condemnation and bitterness. So what gives Tony?
