West Indies off-spinner Sunil Narine has been banned from bowling in the finals of the Champions League T20 tournament on Saturday. But his suspension will not affect the mystery spinner’s participation in the West Indies One-day International series in India, starting next week.

This was confirmed yesterday by CEO of the West Indies Cricket Board, Michael Muirhead.

“It’s a domestic tournament that he has been called in. He has not been called in an ICC tournament and technically it would not affect his participation,” Muirhead told the Express yesterday.

I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't get called.

Meanwhile, the Indian, Saffies and Australian chuckers not very worried.....

In reply to LBW375 Even if he can play the pressure of having his every delivery examined could weigh him down and nullify his value. In Narine's and the wi team's long term interest, Narine should perhaps first get his action scientifically tested and cleared. He will fall into to a trap if he performs poorly in India while not being called but then gets his action questioned just before the World Cup when there is no try to get cleared / rectify.

It's up to the wicbc to do the right thing now and protect their key players.

Rod Tucker is an international umpire, and he called Narine in the semis.

Bet your bottom dollar that whichever umpires are assigned to the ODIs, they will be watching Narine closely too....

Listen here comrade - West Indies cricketers especially the contracted ones are among the highest paid professionals in the Caribbean just on WICB central contracts alone.

And we ain't even checking all the additional income generators like advertising perks etc they benefit from.


Very few professionals in the Caribbean make as much money as these fellas in a year.

I've had this discussion hundreds of times. Remember not all of them play 20 years (like Shiv) over even ten (10). So they are making a substantial part of their life income within this period. Bottom line is that I have no issue with their current pay scale. I think they were fifth behind Australia, India and England and I think South Africa. That sounds reasonable to me as well.

And if they are high performers they get advertising and other promotional contracts.

Here's what I don't understand.

WICB indicated that they are making more money because of the new arrangement. And they are making money on the CLT tournament. Therefore, I expect more revenue. Therefore, why was it necessary for these players to take significant cuts to accommodate the other first class players and the regional tournaments.

WICB posted their financial statements in the past. I will be looking at their results for this upcoming year to see how the expense structure has changed.

I suspect we haven't heard the last of this.

How can West Indies cricketers do volunteer work when they are playing for the WI?

Anyone with a modicum of common sense will not even entertain this crap.

What about the players who are in the squad but not in the final eleven? What do they make? Remember they can't go anywhere else to make money while they're on a 2-3 month tour.

And what is the increase? They completed the agreement so what will they be getting?
