BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Ramnaresh Sarwan will play for the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force during the upcoming regional season, after he was selected in the second round of the Player Draft of the West Indies Cricket Board’s Professional Cricket League.
The inaugural Player Draft was staged just before midday on Monday at Accra Beach Hotel here.
Sarwan, a former Guyana and West Indies captain, with the experience of 87 Tests, 181 One-day Internationals and 18 Twenty20 Internationals is one of only two players who have not been selected by their territorial sides.
“We felt having a player of the calibre of Sarwan in our side would be invaluable to our squad which includes a number of young players,” said Red Force Head Coach Gus Logie.
All-rounder Raymon Reifer is the other player selected by a franchise outside of his home territory. He will play for the Guyana franchise.
“We have struggled with the all-rounder role and we were glad to get a second player in the all-rounder position,” said Guyana Chairman of Selectors Rayon Griffith.

Why did Trinidad do what they did? A nation full of talented players, so many that some cannot fit into the side.

You don't just need talented players; you also need experience, especially when most of your players are young and inexperienced. Sarwan provides that.

So how mixed are these teams as a result of the new format?
Yes, I know about Sarwan to TT and the report said there is another but could someone just list the players on each franchise that do not belong to that 'territory.'

This is the worst franchise system I've ever seen. Basically all the team are the same.
The only difference is money. This franchise system should enable to foster a mixture around the Caribbean with a effort to improve our cricket. Therefore, there should be a system that each team retain 7 players then the rest go into a pool to be drafted by any team. WICBC is dumb ra$$ with this wishy washy franchise. Pure Bull $hit!
