HEADLINE: Gonsalves seeking money to foot WICB bill

CaribbeanCricket.com Nov 5, 2014, 2:52:53 AM

KINGSTOWN, St.Vincent (CMC): St Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves says he has been rallying support to help the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) settle a US$42-million bill with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The Vincentian leader made his disclosure in Kingstown on Monday after WICB president Dave Cameron appealed for assistance from Caricom countries to satisfy the claim.

The BCCI suspended bilateral tours to the Caribbean and initiated the multi-million dollar claim for damages after the one-day team quit the tour of India last month over a contracts row with their union, the West Indies Players' Association (WIPA).

In fact, since we are speaking of US CURRENCY, this will lead to a budget surplus of significant proportions.

I think he is saying, they will use their diplomatic contacts to lobby for debt forgiveness or a stay of execution from the BCCI.

And all these jokers who sign up for this should be voted out of office.
What the what bout footing bill.
That's WICB responsibility. If Caricom don't run it they shouldn't be paying no bill.
We done poor. Hell let WICb and players foot that.

I am praying that the man's comments have been taken out of context here. After all the only quotation marks were around this statement:

"I have been talking to several persons at home and abroad to respond to the plea by the president of the cricket board to see how we can help them with the US$42-million claim that the Indian cricketing authorities have made against our team,"

He must have meant help wicb hire the best civil law expert they could find; OR
- He must have meant help them recruit the best bankruptcy / insolvency professionals they could find; OR
- He must have meanthelp them with wicb restructuring: fire Cameron and Muirhead; hire the best CEO money can buy; complete the Patterson-based reorganization.

Not that I agree for them to provide any funding but I could have sworn that you were calling for government intervention in WICB. What happened?

CC.com Newsroom and the Jamaica Gleaner Newsroom, like y'all not yet understand the 'diplomatic' parlance of these politicians or wha.

Where did Ralph specifically say he was looking for money to help the WICB? All you ain't know that settling a bill does not necessarily mean paying the bill (when it comes to these politicians)...

Verstehen Nov 5, 2014, 4:07:23 AM

Are your governments plain stupid, naive or do the politicians want to pocket the money? shock

Don't they know that- as national politicians- they should be thinking of bypassing the BCCI and speaking to the Indian government and asking them broker a compromise, instead of just cheerfully assuming that the $42M has to be paid?

sounds like Cameron has accepted liability.

“It is clear to me that insofar as the resolution of the matter with the BCCI is concerned, the WICB is in need of some political intervention with the BCCI to help to resolve this problem.” Gonsalves quote from the Trinidad Express article linked in the above news post

hubert Nov 5, 2014, 5:33:13 AM

CARICOM must not give a dime, penny or a three sided even IF THE WICB is overhauled. Let it be a Corporate entity and sink or swim on its own.

If St. Vincent or any other Island/territory wants to prop up this parasitic beat, do so by all means and reap the benefits of tourism. But please leave JAMAICA out of this. There are school kids having to take water from home in the land of wood and water, to flush their toilets at school...
and there are many schools still using pit latrines all over tfhe island paradise.

Thank you and speak of money on your own and your own money.Jamaica has IMF to deal with to put their house in order.
