CaribbeanCricket.com Nov 6, 2014, 3:24:04 AM

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has decided to axe current manager Sir Richie Richardson and replace him with his former teammate and former manager of the team Joel Garner.

The decision was taken at the board’s teleconference on Tuesday and Garner, who is also a director on the WICB, agreed to pick up the challenge at this critical time in West Indies cricket.

A WICB director confirmed to T&T Guardian that the offer was made to Garner and he accepted it. It is anticipated that the WICB will make an official statement on this move soon.

If there is to be no discrimination on the players' side, does that naturally mean that the full blame is Richie's or Richie will tour as the Coach?

ponderiver Nov 6, 2014, 3:36:12 AM

WestDem Nov 6, 2014, 3:42:58 AM

Richie is a former player and Captain so he should not be surprised. As the old saying goes when you lie with dogs you rise with fleas.
I have followed WI cricket for nearly 50 years and I have known many of the Directors of WICB for much of that time. I am yet to meet one that has any respect for the players. They all consider the players to be uneducated, beasts of burden. The WICBandits have always considered themselves to be superior beings.

positiveg Nov 6, 2014, 4:23:23 AM

Real real BS.
So they get rid of Ritchie I guess all along the plan was to get rid of the 3 cappos and Ritchie for real
They dare not touch Ambi.
When they gonna fire themselves.
Or will they now say they give Richie the wuk for coach? hmmmm
Doubt that

that is coded in WICB DNA my friend and they only want people who reinforced that belief.

They need a more forceful man at the helm at this juncture Positiveg... Someone who can intimidate the players so that they toe the WICB line.

Therein lies the crux of the matter and that tells me it is beyond fixing. Time to knock it on the head and let the regional teams go their separate ways

So you think an intimidating factor is what's needed now?
Thought you need someone who the players can respect not just fear.
That's just my thinking Pacy.

people don't remember when the designated manager abandoned the team in England to go and play a curry goat game?

Guardian cricket sources tend to be wrong

I would agree with you but dosent seem to be the way with WICB.

according to the WICB director: “At this point in time we thought that Joel would be the better man for the job because he has a no-nonsense attitude. We are not saying that Richie encouraged anything, what we are saying is that we need a more forceful manager at this point in time.”

but this is part of the story that Mason reported yesterday, you think it is the same source?

Let's hope he step down from his role at the BCA, he has been useless in his role.

Most of these former players need to go from round the cricket..............most of these former players is more stress than stress...........most of these former players need to go in the Legends Box at the Oval and watch cricket......most of these former players need to just get lost........I could go on, but I gine dun hey.......

sunfish Nov 6, 2014, 5:57:19 AM

So far they are afraid to sanction the players who caused the slide to abandonment by refusing to practice and play.

Make changes with the players too WICB, then restructure yourself. Cull the number of directors by 50%.

lalaboy Nov 6, 2014, 5:58:46 AM

The last time Big Bird managed, wasn't there some chaos in the camp?

Garner did exactly this before....remember the OZ tour...when the seniors came back after strike

Narper Nov 6, 2014, 6:18:56 AM

Let's see how Garner 'manages' Lloyd or vice versa

archangel Nov 6, 2014, 11:25:36 AM

I didn't realize that Richardson was the full time manager.

I thought managers were assigned on a series or tour basis.

Baje Nov 6, 2014, 12:21:03 PM

The WICB manager cannot adopt a neutral position in the dispute between the players and WICB

so that is why unno fire him?
rolleyes

a guess the players should fire Hinds!

buds Nov 6, 2014, 1:11:52 PM

That is fact up!! What did Richie do to get the axe? He is being victimized by the Excrements at the WICB--

Ramdhin, Bravo and Pollard should all get the axe--

imusic Nov 6, 2014, 1:46:36 PM

Maybe Richie silently &/or tacitly endorsed the players position

Garner is the WICBC henchman. He certainly well equipped to fulfill that role

So what's wrong with that? These West Indies players are employees of the WICB. They are being paid to do a job. They are not playing for free. If they do not like the job, leave!
I hope the WICB select a brand new set of players for the South Africa tour. Not one of these low achieving, greedy, prideless knuckleheads with this inflated view of themselves and their worth should be even considered. Let them go to IPL!

They still like the job but the way they do not like the way they are treated and managed.

Hunte and Hillarie tried that once and you know where the Great WI prides in Roach and Sammy are now... Get the next bunch, mismanage and disrespect, they will be the same. You then would have to move on to the next batch. The cycle will continue.
