Dwayne Smith is known as a big-hitter, and similarly his retirement from first class cricket has come as a big blow for the Barbados Pride.

Two days after bowling Barbados to victory over the Windward Volcanoes in the WICB’s Professional Cricket League competition, Smith, 31, surprisingly retired from the regional Four-Day format.

Both the Pride’s head coach Henderson Springer and captain Carlos Brathwaite have admitted that losing the swashbuckling batsman has come as a huge blow for the defending champions.

The lifespan of Sports People in comparison
to 9-5 People is relatively short . I therefore have no problem with Dwayne Smith or any other Cricketer getting an opportunity to maximize his earnings .

It is quite possible that Gayle , Sammy and others have come to that realization . I therefore wish all of them GOOD LUCK .The lifespan of Sports People can be very short
the recent tragedy of Phil Hughes is tangible proof of that fact .

Perhaps , just perhaps , if there was not open warfare embroiling the Mimic Men in
the WICB & the Players things may have been different - Ce La Vie .

That was a nice ton. Smith is just another player on the assembly line and who was desering of better attention in the longer format . So it is good that another format came along and he has been able to benefit accordingly. Wish him comtinued good luck and extended career.

Someone I thought would go on and become a permanent fixture for us in tests.

Anyways, we can still expect big things from him in ODIs and T20s

I am a Smitty fan.

I have been disappointed after he had such a great start in test cricket but he is doing the honourable thing, which some others should learn from.

But I still have some good memories of Smitty beating it. I wish him well.

I remember how his Test century on debut saved WI from total embarrassment in SA.

The Muddies will be happy to not have to bat against him tho!

All the best to another outstanding regional talent that didn't quite make the best use of his gifts.

Fare thee well Dwayne Smith. You did okay with limited real cricket talent.
