HEADLINE: BCCI to get part of WICB’s W Cup pay

CaribbeanCricket.com Feb 21, 2015, 4:04:32 PM

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will get part of the West Indies payment for participating in the International Cricket Council (ICC) 2015 World Cup that is currently on in New Zealand and Australia.

T&T Guardian understands, from credible sources, that one of the arrangements for the payback of the US$41.97M due for the aborted tour in 2014, is that part proceeds from the West Indies payout at the World Cup will go to the BCCI.

I just hope this is the final payment and we have not just accepted a US $42 million bill without our own investigation of the validity of the claimed amount.

I have three questions:

1. Does that mean that the cricketers who are now playing will take a pay cut
to facilitate this deal?

2. If the answer to question 1. is yes, isn't it unfair to those present
players who were not a part of the fiasco in India.

3. How will the knucklehead Bravo and others from that tour who are not
currently in the side be asked to pay?

I don't think those members of the current team who were not in India should be asked to pay. And I think Bravo and the others who are not currently in the team should be asked to fork their share out of their pockets. And I hope they are not brought back into the side just to have them pay their share from fees.

OUT OF HIS POCKETS!

Well hopefully this issue motivates the WI team to win their match against India later in the WC. But this issue should remind fans of how damaging that incident was to WI cricket finances. Everyone who mis-handled the issue should lose some pay.

HA HA!

Q. Who said that the ICC has no authority to intervene?
A. I'll leave you to fill this one in?

Q. Who said that the ICC would divert part of the WI's proceeds from ICC events such as the WC to the BCCI?
A. That was I.

Q. Who said that the WI would have to make an extra tour to India?
A. That was me again.

Something Missing here.

WICB said that BCCI claim is not right and they will not agree to it.

Now we hear WICB has agreed to pay part of ICC tournament money and a free tour in Oct.

Interesting that in Garners report he says that he will Meet BCCI to discuss on the 42M payment.

If WICB has agreed to a course then what would Garner Negotiate? Too many Gaps in the story.

if the jokers at WICB give India any money without any justification as to how they arrived at that figure then they are not only immoral, unethical but also spineless.

The headline says..prt of the WI WC pay . How much is that..The total 42m ? . smile
how much is the WC pay for WI ?? This I is a bit confused.
The greater point though is confirmation that WI owes the money BCCI says it does and although there is a free tour to india, the weaightier matter is future bi lateral ties starting with 2016 India propsed tour of WI. That is where the rubber will really meet the road and where Garner's intetion to meet with BCCI is key.

Away with Dastardly Dave.

A rational action is to allow our players to return to India and play for free and apologize to the Indian people and West Indies supporters as to compensate for their thoughtless action. Allow Bravo to lead this team. The board must take charge and allow the BCCI know we are unable to pay $42 million at this time.

rubberd Feb 22, 2015, 9:36:45 AM

In reply to positiveg

The $42M lost mostly from no cricket on tv, the loss was larger but India was able to mitigate the amount by asking Lanka to fill in and therefore reduce the number of playing days lost.

I think the 1 take away from this fiasco is the understanding that cricket is big business and the amount of money involved.

The really serious sponsorship money avoids West Indies like the plague because of its administrators.
Digicel was able to outmaneuver the bandits, it is unheard of where the sponsor feels it could run the competition better than the owners and initiate a takeover, only in the Caribbean.

I am convinced that Cameron was unaware of the consequences of his actions
in India and should fall on his sword.

West Indies have fallen so far as a marketable product that they games are in the smaller capacity stadiums in New Zealand.

Imagine 86 thousand at MCG and the feeling that 80 thousand from India, that is serious influence.

You'll throw out any old sh!te to distract attention, don't you? Then, you accuse others of red herrings!

It is not really relevant which broadcasters pay the ICC the most for the WC rights. What is relevant is that, as a result of the fiasco in India, the WICB will now only receive a portion of the amount they were due to collect from the ICC for their participation in the World Cup. The remainder will be used as a PARTIAL payment towards the damages suffered by the BCCI.

For the WICB, that $35K is going to cost $35M.

1. Yes, this is likely to be the case. Although, after Dave made such a fuss about not being able to change the payment fees to the players, maybe this won't happen.

2. Was it fair to take the money that the players in India were being paid to wear the sponsor's logo and allow the commercial use of their image rights and give it to the players back in the Caribbean?

3. No, the claim for damages was addressed to the WICB and not the WIan players. The BCCI did not have individual contractual agreements with the WI players and as such can not sue for the breach thereof. If the WICB believes that the players acted illegally it is incumbent upon them to sue the players.

Only way for Cameron to remove BCCI matter as an election issue is to seek a quick settlement of the matter.
Removes the opportunity for Garner to campaign as a potential saviour.
We paid a high price for Cameron's first term and will pay an even higher price for his second.

POINT Feb 22, 2015, 5:21:20 PM

This is what happens when you have a Rogue Cricket Board , coddled & fawned by its many friends in the Media who willingly excuses its excesses . But delight in being very critical of the Players in order to obscure the numerous failings of those in the governance of Cricket in the Region whose
colossal Arrogance , Lack of Business Acumen
& Ineptness have always landed them in trouble .

Their hatred of the Players is the primary reason why they are now in hoc to the tune of 42 million dollars , propelled by their
Individual & collective hatred ; they failed to take a deep breath , and consider
the ramifications of cancelling the Tour to India .

They did this because they wanted the Players to be blamed for the cancellation of the Tour , but it backfired on them , because the BCCI never mentioned the Players in its proposed lawsuit .

I now fully understand why Sponsors are
are avoiding them like the Plague . Arrogance is a hell of a thing , this is reminds me of the year they decided to go
to the Privy Council , in a matter that also involved Digicel & Stanford . That had to have cost a pretty penny .

But then they are accountable to NO ONE , and the International Cricket Cabal , it seems does not give a damn about the fact that it is Incompetent lacks Vision , and Good Business Acumen ; and continuously
Fritter away money that could have been used to raise the standard of Cricket , and the competitiveness of our Players in the
International Cricket Arena .

They have been for decades assisted in the destruction of Cricket in the Region by their many friends in the Media , who they use to attack the Players while give those in the governance of Cricket the green light to do as they please .

Nothing is certain as discussions are still ongoing. I note that Mamchan is the journo.

I pointed out that it is money they dont generate on their own anyway. That money is generated by Indian audiences and most of WI revenue is generated by India, so its a MOOT point to say it is THEIR revenue. Its a fine line.

India could at anytime say its taking more money again and cut even more of WI revenue. It was on that basis they cut the revenue from 118m to 81m.

This is more likely the result.

POINT Feb 22, 2015, 6:37:56 PM

In reply to mikesiva

You thought wrong , first of all the BCCI is
a major Player in the ICC . Second of all
the WICB & Cameron acted without considering
the ramifications & repercussions of Canceling the Tour to India .

Thirdly , I get the impression that the International Cricket Cabal did not want their dirty linen between two member Boards ,washed in Public . The matter was
therefore settled Privately .

This means that the WICB & Cameron can continue being Arrogant ; Incompetent &
Fritter away money , since they are not accountable to Anyone on the Planet .

BTW , they can count on their many friends in the Media to perpetually nice to them , while those in the Media skewer the Players .

You are among those of us who can understand what you stated . I bet Cozier ; Fazeer , and Becca et al aint going to say a word about this .

That aint their job , their job is to be very critical only of the Players , to obscure the numerous failings of those in the governance of Cricket in the Region .They have been doing this now unabated for decades .

Many here dislike the fact that I am critical of the Media , but I simply don't
give a damn , because they are the people
who by their refusal to be very critical of those in the governance of Cricket in the Region , have assisted the latter in being Arrogant ; Incompetent & lacking Business
Acumen .

The end result of this unholy alliance has
gravely affected the unhealthy state of Cricket in the Region , and the competitiveness of our Players in the International Cricket Arena .
