Was it a lack of foresight – an inability, as it were, to see the forest from the trees – or was it simply the arrogance of a leader corrupted by power?  I mean, he was already in Dubai. On a clear day, if you look out the window, you might even spot a member or two from the BCCI. Besides, it would seem to be the most natural thing in the world for him to do.  Hence the question: Why in heaven’s name would Cameron risk jeopardizing this close, cozy relationship that the WICB enjoyed with the BCCI? – A relationship that was strengthened after the WICB obliged to a last minute request for a tour of India in 2012.  

What is even more baffling is why Cameron would drag the BCCI into this dog fight between the WICB and the players. Over the last few years, we have seen cricket boards around the world (take your pick) falling over themselves trying to get a front row seat with the BCCI. Given the paucity of the WICB, pardon the expression but they do not have a pot to pee pee in, and the relative financial might of the BCCI, why would any leader, any Board president, with a modicum of common sense jeopardize such a coveted position?  Interestingly, this fight between the WICB and its players is precisely over the issue of money – specifically, funding for the development of cricket in the region – seen as one of the main reasons for the fall from grace of the great West Indies team. Now we face the real possibility of a $42 M payout, and the cancelation of all bilateral tours with India for the next two years.

It gets worst. We have Cameron’s apparent attempt to discredit the BCCI’s version of events that led up to Indiagate.  If you would recall, WICB issued a statement that, somehow, seemed to suggest that the BCCI was misrepresenting the events that resulted in the aborted tour.  While one might not go so far as to suggest that Cameron was calling the BCCI liars, it certainly comes pretty close to it. In fact, it was so close that the BCCI’s secretary, Patel, was forced to publish several correspondences between the BCCI and the WICB that purportedly indicated that WICB, in other words, Cameron, took a rather callous attitude to the entire affair and seemed somewhat indifferent to the possibility that the tour might be cancelled.

Is this the leadership that Cameron promised in the last election?

Cameron is a liar.
He thinks being president of WICB he is some big shyte. He forgot to look at the standings/ rank of the WI Cricket team.
When the report first came out the BCCI was aghast that Cameron who was in Dubai did not fly over or CALL tbe BCCI to calm things down.
THE WICB IS WRONG.
Cameron knows this and I find it so comical that there is actually countries in the region not being harsh on him because WE will all have to contribute somehow to the 42 mill.
Trinidad already has.
We have 4 players who were sacrificed already.

Some very good questions asked about the decisions Cameron made during the India tour crisis. However it is puzzling that he is likely to retain his position when it comes to a vote later this year.

The author must have been giving this some serious thought. A whole 2 months worth. Pity he could not come up with something better given the amount of thought he put into it.

WICB is at fault, but the players led a revolt.

The biggest mistake the WICB made, was not sending a replacement 11 on the next plane, whether India liked it or not. Then there would be no claim to answer to.

In that respect they were not very strategic.

I am convinced that if he had gone from Dubai to India and met with the players face-to-face (in other words shown some leadership) a compromise would have been reached and that tour would not have been aborted. He has now clue how to manage a crisis. Indeed, three months after the aborted tour, he probably has not yet figured out there was a crisis back in November.

Players questioned the salary reduction which was not communicated earlier... WICB / WIPA representatives should have gone there or reached out to them to discuss on the issue. Why they did not is the most interesting question.

Players decided to pull out a good 15 days after their initial discontent.

that Cameron on major decision is not empowered to act on his own .

Apparently , many here and the Region think
otherwise . But that is not ever going to
happen . The reason why the WICB is in this mess is due to the fact that they have never been known to think things through
clearly ; or have careful deliberations before making decisions .

They failed to consider all the ramifications & possible repercussions that
would occur by cancelling the Tour to India
had they done that , perhaps cooler heads would have prevailed & Cameron would have
gone to India from Dubai , and settle the matter .

This aint the first time that they have had to pay for their Arrogance . The matter that went to the Privy Council , that involved the WICB ; Digicel & Stanford easily comes to mind . I am sure that there are others , and that there will be more
incidents that will fritter away their financial resources .

Now obviously if they were accountable to
a higher Authority , they would never be doing these things . They would have to be more circumspect regarding their Stewardship of Cricket in the Region .

It seems that not even the ICC can rein in these Arrogant , Incompetent ; and visionless People whose Business Acumen is at zero ; in regard to Cricket in the Region .
