ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board announced today a 20-member West Indies squad for a training camp in Antigua ahead of the International Home Test Series against England, starting next month.

Shannon Gabriel, Jason Holder, Shai Hope, Leon Johnson, Veerasammy Permaul

Denesh Ramdin, Kemar Roach, Marlon Samuels, Devon Smith, Jerome Taylor

All but seven of the players selected were part of the squad that played in the previous Test series against South Africa this past December/January.

The seven include the uncapped quartet of Carlos Brathwaite, fellow fast bowler Miguel Cummins, Shane Dowrich and fellow wicketkeeper/batsman Shai Hope, with the spin bowling pair of Devendra Bishoo and Veerasammy Permaul earning a recall.

Left-handed batsman Darren Bravo has recovered from the injury that ended his participation at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 early.

The training camp will begin on April 5 and culminate with preparation for the first Test, starting on Monday, April 13, at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground.

A good squad, a good mix of new and old, Devon have more lives than a cat.

Was hoping to see Carter

I was hoping to see a few more quicks in the training squad. Merwin Mathew, Mindley and Marlon Richards.

Any time they spend with Ambi would only be helpful in their development

Other than Chanders and Bravo a bunch of good club cricketers.

I can't say I'm surprised...Devon is still the best of a bad bunch, as we've seen from the PCL. As for Carter, he did next to nothing in five matches in the PCL.

My biggest surprise is that Gabriel was retained, after bowling so unimpressively in the IPL, and yet the Invisible Man was omitted, after bowling so impressively in the IPL.

Our selectors seem to have a penchant for picking the wrong fast bowlers, from the days of Darren Powell.

Surely Peters and Matthews were head and shoulders statistically the best fast bowlers in the PCL.

Gabriel is not even the best fast bowler on his team !!!

In reply to DIEHARD... Darren Powell was the Devon Smith of bowling. So just like how I feel Devon has the goods yet fails to show it at the highest level, so did DP.

So your choice of players is incorrect in trying to prove your point.

Inaccurate, which opening batsman is Devon Smith keeping out of the XI?

Given his experience and the fact he has consistently outperformed all others at regional level in the 3 years he was left out of the WI test team, he has rightfully earned a recall.

Each time Smith has been discarded, he keeps earning teh right to be considered by scoring heavily, and no one else has raised their hand.

Powell on the other hand was consistently selected, consistently shite up the place with senseless bowling and at varying points in time kept the following players on the sidelines at some point or the other

Corey Collymore, Pedro Collins,Fidel Edwards,Ravi Rampaul, Ian Bradshaw, Vasbert Drakes all were kept out by Powell who was not as far ahead of the contenders as Smith is at regional level

Even spinners like Omari Banks and Dave Mohammed were kept out to accommodate a shyte prong attack.

Every single one of those players with the exception of Banks have a better FC average than Darren Powell, and only Banks and Sammy do not have a better SR.
