New selection rules add interest to Player Draft

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – With new rules in place, there is extra-special interest to see how this will impact upon the selectors of the six franchises in the second Player Draft of the West Indies Cricket Board’s Professional Cricket League.

The Draft, which has been organised with the goal of achieving an equitable distribution of the available player talent in the Regional 4-Day and NAGICO Super50 tournaments, will be staged this Thursday, June 18, at the Accra Beach Hotel in Barbados, starting at 1 p.m. Fans can view the “live” webcast of the Draft on the WICB’s website, www.windiescricket.com.

The Draft will be conducted over five rounds and two adjustments have been made to the Draft process which is expected to tax the selectors as their make their choices.

Interesting. Wavell Hinds representing Ja in the draft and is WIPA's head. Suppose a player complains to WIPA about something to do with the draft?

Wavell Hinds should not be affiliated to any of the regional cricket boards...its a blatant conflict of interest...

How about one international player per team from outside the region?

They did it last year - that why two is now mandatory.

WRT outside players - during "winter ball" time - you might get a few good players at a fair cost

They don't have to be the top contracted players

but the Bopara, Ten Doeschate, Ryder, Brad Hodge, Wagner kind of players ( those who are not contracted). Even if they play part of the season and go T 20 like Big Bash - then you can shuffle/replace that person

a great idea but it doesn't seem viable. Where will the money come from to fund this? Nobody turning up to watch this so there is no television interest. As a result there are no sponsors because which company would throw away money on a competition which is watched by only three men and a dog?

They should at least improve the live streaming coverage, and also have internet radio streaming via Youtube, etc.

Ten home based players still too much, and the two minimum is too little, I say no more than 7 locals locked.

Four of your 8 remaining picks must come from elsewhere, they going to make a mockery of the two man pick watch
