THERE has been a deafening silence around the resolution of the problem with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over the tour cancelled by the president of the West Indies Cricket Board in late 2014.  There was a very glib comment that it would be settled and no word since.
I think this is a very rocky road and this problem will not be solved easily and without the payment of money by the WICB. I hope I am wrong.

The problem has affected the WICB tour schedule and I am sure contributed to the cancellation of a triangular One-Day International Tournament with Pakistan and Zimbabwe. The tour would have given West Indies a chance to qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in England. Pakistan withdrew and there was no ICC pressure to insist on the tour so it was cancelled.

We lost the opportunity to qualify by winning the series and gaining enough points to be among the top eight ODI teams at the qualifying date of September 30, 2015.   We will now not participate in 2017.

This is happening while the WICB president is playing politics with town-hall meetings but offering no explanation for this major setback.  This will be the first time that West Indies will fail to participate in an important ICC tournament.

But maybe the lack of interest can be explained by the giveaway of the rights we once enjoyed at the ICC because of a vote by Dave Cameron, the WICB president, and his fellow Full Members of the ICC.

Nothing new here. Bassarath should shut his mouth now because his vote helped Cameron stay in office.
The Board of Directors are afraid of losing their checks if the status quo is changed.

Cameron and co will play this issue along until India sees it is in their benefit to help out the WICB. If they do not see a positive then WICB will be forced to cough up the 43 mil plus.

They did!!

They had just trashed India in the 1st ODI....

...when they discovered that Cameron & co had screwed them nice and proper!!!

The fact of the matter is despite what has happened since, the WICB were over a barrel with their pants down vs the Big 3. The Big 3 would have still gotten their majority so they made the most astute political decision available at the time and it looked like then they had negotiated a cushy number with extra tours outside of the FTP to all three to pad the fact that they signed up for about 30m less officially.

What changed EVERYTHING was the India tour and walkout and their handling of that situation.

But Pat Rousseau would be better have explaining WHY the WICB voted for India, England and Australia instead of this slant on things. After all, Clyde Walcott would have not been president if it wasnt for those very same boards. That illustrates the real problem and irony of what is happening now.

Once Pakistan qualified they were under no obligation to get involved in an unscheduled triangular tournament to help out de WI who smartly did not schedule any 1 dayers between the WC and a Zimbabwe tour in September.

I just love how People who think they smart are easily outsmarted . I hope

People fail to realize that more Cricket is played off the Field , than on the Field .

They are now doing things they never did before , Town Hall Meetings ;
condescending to meet with the Regional Governments ; having Camps lasting more than 1 week .

Wait a minute, is this the same Pat Rousseau who was WICB president while chairman of the company that distributed Red Stripe Beer? If memory serves me well his company sponsored regional one day cricket but insisted the semi-finals and final had to be played in Jamaica.

People through out the Caribbean rightfully complained but Uncle Pat argued Red Stripe was the only company in the region willing to sponsor one day cricket at the time.

However, a Trinidadian soft drink company came forward and said that was not true because they had submitted a bid to sponsor regional one day cricket.

Uncle Pat claimed Red Stripe submitted the highest bid and that was the reason why the Trinidadian company lost out.

The Trinidad company said Uncle Pat was a stranger to the truth because their bid was higher than the one from Red Stripe. They demanded Uncle Pat release all the bids to the public.

Uncle Pat said the bids were private pieces of information belonging to WICB and nobody else's business.

Now Uncle Pat want to criticise Uncle Dave?

Your comment illustrates the core problem that keeps us in perpetual "developing nation" - but really backward country - status. We don't want to take the long hard road of standing on principle and dealing with the consequences. So Cameron, who is cunning but not wise, thinks he can outmanoeuvre other nations by currying favour to get an advantage with the Big 3. The seemingly similarly shallow members of his board go along for the ride, determining that this short term boost for wi cricket will buy them a few more years of board privilege. Of course, how often have we seen examples where the top dogs having got minnows to do their bidding then summarily dispose of those minnows - whom they now neither respect or trust - and then attempt to mend fence fences with the honorably vanquished.

They got WICB vote to make the change. Now we are without honour and very dispensable. You may say that even if we had voted against them the result was inevitable. But principles matter - at least they do in the long run. In voting for the new regime we cannot now cry foul when we get shafted.

I dont get any of this to be honest. I think you missed a church sermon and tried to do it here.

In a world where 3 members of the ICC generate over 80% of the revenue I am not sure what principle applies. What would the WICB argument be ? After all, there is little or no principle in WI being one of the protected ICC members. Would we say that others deserve a more equitable seat at the table ? I think not.

What exactly is principled about anything to do with the ICC ?
