HEADLINE: WICB marks time with BCCI

CaribbeanCricket.com Sep 16, 2015, 3:18:42 AM

Internal problems currently facing the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are likely to inflict further woes on the West Indies as the regional board seeks to find a mechanism to deal with the future relationship between the two Boards.

A lawsuit worth US$41.97 million and the possibility that all future bi-lateral ties may be severed by the BCCI, continue to haunt the WICB, and recent developments within the BCCI are unlikely to ease the pressure.

The governing body for Indian cricket is currently engaged in a court battle with its former president N Srinivasan that is preventing it from holding general elections.

Last week, the BCCI sought the opinion of the Supreme Court on whether Srinivasan could attend the meetings of the board as the authorised representative of Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA).

knew of the claim, but thought the BCCI was trying not to go through the courts.

The Problem as I see it , was that it was incumbent on the WICB , to think very carefully , regarding the Implications & Ramifications that could ensue if the Tour was cancelled .

But as usual the people in the WICB ,
who are their own Bosses , answerable
to NO ONE , and are so powerful in the Region , believed that it was beneath
them to condescend to talking with their Employees to settle the matter
of the Players Salaries , so that the Tour , which was already in progress to continue .

This behaviour as I have stated in this Forum was exceedingly RECKLESS ;
because the WICB never ever gave a thought to the fact that not making a serious effort to solve the problems
with the Players ; obviously placed the BCCI in very serious financial straits .

The interesting thing about the lawsuit filed by the BCCI ,
NONE OF THE PLAYERS WERE NAMED IN THE
LAWSUIT .

This is precisely why , in my opinion, the behaviour of the WICB
was & is Reprehensible . Worse yet
the WICB displayed very Poor Judgement , & Business Acumen .

With what is happening between BCCI and the courts in regards to IPL etc, u think BCCI want to be anywhere near an Indian court right now? Maybe it would be a good idea for the WICB to call the bluff and take them to court. lol

I would say that BCCI bluffing and want nothing to do with the courts and thats why they tried to bully WICB by threatening to pull out on future tours. BCCI already set precedence by mashing up an RSA tour just to play curry goat cricket for Tendy with the same WICB. It would be interesting to hear dem explain dat in court.

The bigger issue for WI is the announced cancellation of future tours by the BCCI and what plans have been put in place to have a "replacement series". India were able in short order to make alternate arrangements.

Is Cameron hoping that a new set of BCCI directors would reverse the decision of the previous board?

Look the only friend that the WICB had in the ICC was the BCCI , therefore it was totally asinine to not salvage the
Tour which was in progress .

But as usual , " the Power the WICB
has flew up in its Head " , and the
only consideration was to humiliate the Players .

Absolutely no thought was given to
the deep financial plight , they put their Host in , by the cancellation of the Tour .

I am sure that had the BCCI done that to the WICB ; the latter would be howling as loud as twenty Tazans .
My take is that it would have been better if the people in the WICB thought long and hard before acting rashly .

But that just aint their Style , anything to humiliate & embarrass the
Players is the most important thing ,
this is why the BCCI is now suing them for 42 million dollars . All this could have been avoided , I am
reminded of the Adage :

" FOOLS RUSH IN WHERE ANGELS

FEAR TO TREAD "

The WICB needs to grow some balls and demand that Bravo and company put their hands into their pockets and come up with the payment for this fine. I just don't understand how this so-called cricket board is so afraid of these few knuckleheaded, minimal-talent guys. I hope BCCI never ease up on their position. Dumb-ass Bravo and his band of idiots must be made to pay!

You should be one of the WICB guys since only they can think so logically... You have an aborted tour and the fact finding team does find fault with WICB and WIPA as primary culprits with the Players (all including HOLDER) as the secondary offenders...

But still Bravo and Pollard were sacked and Ramdin is well on the way out. To top you also want them to pay from their pockets while the major culprits as identified by their own committee are just filling their coffers.... lol lol lol lol

BCCI will take the easy route if they do not want to face the court. They will not tour or invite WI. Simple. WI would have to them depend on England to shore them every year which they would not be able to either.

You can play hardball when you have high chance of success... But playing hardball in this situation is completely detrimental to WI cricket.

You may have noticed , that the BCCI got a Replacement Team , to play in India , not long after the WICB pulled the plug on the Tour .

This informs me that the BCCI realized
that the WICB was going to eventually
cancel the Tour , perhaps they gleaned that information from the past behaviour of the WICB .

It is obvious that the BCCI was aware
that Our Players were having problems
with the WICB ; and they had played matches without a Contract . It is possible that is why in the Lawsuit ,
none of our Players were named .

The WICB has always been reckless because their primary role is 'control'.

Bossman, why India has not acted on their own threats and deadlines? And up to this point the only action that has been taken is firmly worded statement to ensure that other players don't even consider taking such action in the future especially when it comes to the ICC events. Why is the ICC urging WICB and BCCI to work it out? And really how many ways you think WICB have to work it out.

would be interesting to see how BCCI came up with the figure, but WICB seems contented in not questioning it?

Well thats the 42 million dollar question, considering they replaced the WICB the next day with Sri Lanka. Does that escalate the claim against WICB or reduce the losses?

Man you are saying they shouldn't be called names yet justifying the name calling by your last sentence. Who in this modern world accepts work without some form of contract? My frikking part-time seasonal gardener demanded a written one from me this summer.... smile

India not confirming any series with WI is enough to bring WI resources down. India has stuck to the word that there is no cricket with WI until the amount is paid.

India has stuck to the word that there is no cricket with WI until the amount is paid.

So then it may be better to pay the amount now and resume cricket with India since the WICB will loose more than M$42 by not engaging India in the field asap... plus they may still end up paying that amount

Look at that statement again. If WI dont play India, how are they going to get anywhere close to the 42m? so India cant want them food on one hand then calling off the hunt on the other.

And again who in their right mind going to pay a $42M fine without proof of damages. Maybe I shouldn't ask that question cuz with WICB u never know.

India subsidize WI cricket and calling for a fine greater than the subsidy they provide.

I think they have proof since somewhere right on this board some of their losses were highlighted. I can remember them citing revenue from the remainder of the cancelled tour for which they have already paid for the tv rights and sold gate receipts for which they had to refund the people who purchased. Maybe hotel rooms that were already covered. All of these can be proven.....

Look the WICB left the BCCI holding an empty Bag . Therefore the WICB cannot
now state that the figure the BCCI stated is incorrect .

The salient point is that the WICB cancelled a Tour while it was in progress . Worse yet , the WICB made absolutely no attempt to salvage the Tour . This is why in my opinion the
WICB was RECKLESS .

The WICB in cancelling the Tour bluntly refused to take into consideration the following things .
Hotel Accommodations ; Loss of sale by Vendors ; Loss of TV Rights sale ;
Sales of Tickets etc .

BTW , Our Players who play in the IPL
would have brought many Indian Cricket Fans to the Matches . But in their usual condescending ; and animosity towards the Players , all these factors I have stated were ignored by the people in the Worst
International Cricket Board in the World , aka , the WICB .
