HEADLINE: Simmons is Back

CaribbeanCricket.com Oct 30, 2015, 1:54:44 AM

West Indies coach Phil Simmons will continue in his post as head coach after his meeting with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Human Resources committee over a public outburst, ended with just a slap on the wrist, well placed sources within the WICB told Guardian Media.
Simmons was suspended by the WICB after he alleged that there was ‘outside’ influence in the non-selection of T&T players Dwayne Bravo and Keiron Pollard. He was replaced by selector Eldine Baptiste as coach for the current series in Sri Lanka. Simmons met with the Committee and CEO of the WICB, Michael Muirhead last Wednesday and he was warned about his outburst and told that comments like those would not be tolerated in the future.

Well, another fiasco is over for now, now he could go about working on the fiasco on the cricket field.

Fiasco is NOT over

If the turbulent twosome are left out again
It will still be outside influence
And Phil will feel the same
And since no regulation was breached
He is free to talk again

That might be so but the current impasses highlights a bigger problem

A lack of respect on both sides ... employer and employees are both guilty

Phil should focus on coaching and leave the comess up to others.

We are a bottom feeder mediocre side .... thats whats up

Let us see how the selection process goes for Australia series.
Lloyd toed the company line but seemed to "jump" let us see how Browne & Baptiste react to a virtual public flogging.

The thing is this....the bigger problem you talking bout was always there, it is just that no one had the gumption to butt heads wid it.........Phil cannot just focus on coaching in this environment, because if you oppose something and it keep fanning itself in yuh face yuh gine say sain, the others you talking bout may be worse than a muzzled k9.......

This situation gine be interesting because Phil could come back with an attitude of not giving a flying fuck and just tekking dey money until such time he feel like leffing, the others on the other hand gine tip-toe through the tulips and pray and hope that nothing happens again that will force the coach to go further than he has this time.........wunna seeing wuh in front wunna faces, it is time to see beyond wunna noses and find the real gist of what is happening here.........the WICBC did not have much of a choice, because with Phil holding his line, they could not push because pushing would mean revealing who the people that interfering is, and that was a risk they did not want to take..........anyhow, run the course wunna running........someone once said, every true thing should not be known, so take what the WICBC tell wunna and drink nuff water.........

I agree with what you have stated ,
Simmons , was in possession of more cards than the WICBC , in my opinion ,
because coming out of their Reckless behaviour in India , it was crystal clear that they needed to get a quality
Head Coach for the Team .

Simmons on the other hand had a job where he was not only is own boss , but was in a position to get life tenure , in Ireland , and a lot of Perks .

However Simmons needed to ensure that
his bridge to being the Boss in Ireland was not burned , in the event that he did not get what he wanted
from the Emperors in the WICBC .

He needed in my opinion , to hire a Contract Lawyer to draw up a Contract
stipulating what he wanted inserted
into his Contract with the WICBC . If
his terms were not met , then he could return to Ireland .

It aint that Simmons was unaware with the Slippery People in the WICBC .
Simmons is from the Region , so he cannot plead Ignorance . So as they say , Simmons made his Bed , so now he has to lie in it .

Let me say this ,the Hiring of Eldine
Baptiste was very bad Optics , and once again the people in the WICB Stupidly covered their faces with Rotten Eggs .

As always their total lack of skills
in dealing with their Employees once again surfaced . In this debacle , like the Fiasco in India , it cannot be said that they covered themselves in Glory .

I know their Howling Jackals will soon be here as usual to defend the
INDEFENSIBLE . While the Region has to suffer those in the WICBC who apart from not knowing :

" HOW TO WIN FRIENDS

& INFLUENCE PEOPLE ".

Once again they have demonstrated to
ALL & Sundry , that they have still not grasped the fact that :

CRICKET IS A VERY SERIOUS BUSINESS

THAT DEMANDS THAT THE BUSINESS

OF CRICKET BE TAKEN VERY SERIOUSLY .

Their Individual & Collective Failure
to realize the above is precisely why
they will always be not only the Worst International Cricket Board in
the World , but the Laughing Stocks
of other Cricket Boards , & Cricket Fans . Pigs love wallowing in Mud .
This Lot loves wallowing in Controversy , Incompetence & Stupidity .

Do you really think that Simmons can just walk back into the Ireland setup ?
Ireland plays primarily ODI and 20/20 cricket. Simmons was very fortunate to get a job with the WI to coach at the test level. This is far different to what his has been doing for the last few years.

In any event and in my opinion it doesnt matter who coaches our guys. We have had the very best in the past and it hasnt made much of a differrence. I simply dont think that we have sufficient talent from which to chose.

My suggestion to Simmons is if he cant get who he wants in the team for Australia, then resign. Its poor form to go public with who voted for who in a selection meeting. Very bad indeed. There is no excuse.

I rest my case

All we need is for his employers to adopt the same attitute ie be constantly looking for an opportunity to dispose of him with Baptiste waiting in the wings and we will remain at square one

Like I said before there is too much commess in our cricket, everyone wants to be a star, even the hangers on by association. Its a toxic brew

Jesus himself can come to help the West Indies players but until the core issues that are affecting the game in the Caribbean is addressed and major steps are taken to correct these issues we will not see another successful team.

This problem with Simmons now is just so stupid. Here you have a person addressing the issues at hand that are key to improving the team but management are mad as hell because he talk. So his job is not to talk and he talks.

This heavy handedness by the WICB is destroying the game.

carl0002 Oct 30, 2015, 8:23:01 AM

I must be missing something in this saga. Simmons complaining bout interference cuz he made promise to 2 or 3 mediocre Trinis that would not make 1 iota of a difference in the WI team. Furthermore they so much as indicated that the money for test cricket too little bit for their liking. No one said anything when he discarded Chanderpaul over Whatsapp before the selection panel could break the news to the man. A mean, he could easily have been reprimanded for that. Its not the coaches business to be going around telling people when they should retire. Period.

So in the end, all this is for the exclusion of 2 or 3 Trinis one of which is an alleged up and coming porn star. Lets see Simmonds put his neck on the block, play hardball according to some when a few non Trinis get their pink slips.

As for releasing names about who interfered why is that even an issue. is it really that big a deal if he openly declared Pybus interfered. What am I missing.

Kay Oct 30, 2015, 9:20:12 AM

Suh Simmons and his lawyers admitted that he was in breach of some contractual condition. I understood from previous statements that he was never going to attend the hearing he was summoned to unless he was told what he breached.....

So he was told and he attended and got a warning not to repeat. So why he end up being the smartest man and getting kudos?

I think the board should instead be commended for letting it go with just a slap on the wrist

So Kay who got who by the cojones cuz according to some Phil got WICB by the cojone and squeezing. Not that it has to be that way as they could both reach an amicable agreement and move on. But like typical WI they not happy if somebody aint putting one over on somebody else.

You are absolutely correct in your assessment , in my opinion both the WICBC & Simmons were & are not only damaged by this Fiasco , and the damage done may be beyond repair .

The people in the WICBC are evidently
oblivious of the fact that :

MIGHT AINT ALWAYS RIGHT ;

It is this Asinine thinking that always , yes always lands them in Deep DOO DOO . They have yet to understand & learn this fact .

There is absolutely no doubt that if
they had to answer to a Higher Authority they would be more circumspect ; disciplined and thoughtful in their Actions .

We differ on the role of a head coach.
Cricket organizations has to look at the role of selectors, how it differ from that of a Head-coach, and team selection.
I am for selectors acting as scouts, going around the region to see and assess players, having videos and sharing them with coaches , but to have a vote in selection, I say no.
I also think it is time to look at a captain's role, I think the coaches should be in the captain ears during the game, whether it is field placing, bowling changes or anything they see during the game.
Other sports have captains, but the plays are called from the bench.

POINT Oct 30, 2015, 2:28:07 PM

My take is that prior to applying for the job in the Region , Simmons should
have alerted his Bosses in Ireland of his plans , so that if things did not go well , he could resume his job in Ireland .

I am of the opinion , that his record in Ireland was such that he could
have had a bridge back to Ireland if things did not work out .

Simmons was not unaware of the vagaries of the WICBC .It was therefore necessary , in my opinion ,
for him to leave the door back to Ireland ajar .

I believe that he has done enough for Ireland to be extended this courtesy . When dealing with Slippery People ,
my take is that you need to get a good Lawyer who specializes in Contracts .

You take the Contract to your Lawyer , and you both decide what you would
like written into your Contract , with the assistance of your Lawyer .
Before putting your signature on the dotted line .

Contracts can be tricky to those who are not Lawyers , this is why people need to engage the services of a Lawyer before signing on the dotted line .

Contrary to the belief of some people
who claim that Players cannot read , it aint about reading , it is about insuring that you are not unfairly taken advantage of by your Employer .

The Commission of Enquiry , appointed
by the WICBC with regard to the Fiasco in India stated clearly that
Players must get their Contracts in a timely manner before going on Tour .

I cite this because Simmons was not born yesterday . If he went to the WICBC without the benefit of Legal Advice , then he made a mistake , in my opinion .
