BIG HITTING middle-order batsman Kieron Pollard is excited to get back on the cricket field for the first time in three months, when he turns out for the Cape Cobras against Lions in the South Africa Ram Slam T20 Challenge today.

The 28-year-old Pollard made his debut for Cobra last season and was adjudicated Ram Slam T20 player of the tournament with his all-round performances of 241 runs at an average of 81 and 14 wickets at 14.57.

Speaking from South Africa ahead of his first game, Pollard articulated the aforementioned statement.

“It’s great to officially be back involved in competitive cricket, since being away from action since the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) final with Barbados Tridents,” said Pollard.

WI dont care about winning anymore. Need of the hour is to expose more players "with the hope someone good turns up". With Gayle, Pollard, Bravo, Simmons missing they have more places to test. So they are happy

Pollard is free to do what he wants at the peak of his career. This makes him more marketable.

So both are happy.

Pollard, I believe, would not care. At the end of the day he is more popular around the world than he would have dreamt of as a kid. He is welcomed and fought for in every T20 league around the world.

But he is not the only one who did not want to be saddled. The pace at which Sammy, Russel and Simmons retired from Test cricket is a clear indication of what is being done.

I wish Carlos Brathwaite has a big last 2 ODIs . He might be another huge attraction in International T20 cricket.

Isn't this scenario the same as when Clive Lloyd and his band of merrie men played county cricket?

Much demand in county and more demand on world arena.

Only difference was that they played tests and odi's . Today it is 20/20 and odi's not so much tests which they are in demand for.
So why the jealousy?

I am happy for Pollard actually rillo. WI administrators squeezed the resistance before 2007 because WI was the major source of the money.

Now they cant. If Pollard is dropped he is going to go around the world earning and being more recognized. This is a better age for Cricketers than the older times.

No one player can win matches for WI. Chanders and Lara for all they were could not win much for WI and we were still at 8. It needs 11 players and in WI at the moment do not even have half the team

How many times do you recall feeling sorry for Bravo and Pollard because the team let them down after their(Bravo and Pollard) stellar performances?

Bravo many times when I see people like Sammy take his position in the ODI & Test team. Never felt for sorry for Pollard being missed but with his experience in different condition he could still be better of the useless lot.

That is the reason I am happy for Pollard in global T20 leagues. Having a possibility of being selected for WI in ODis / Tests will reduce his marketability. Now he is happy where he is and WI would also be happy where he is.

Players , unlike the WICBC recognize
that Cricket is a very serious Business
, and the lifespan of Players comparatively speaking is limited .

It is therefore in the interest of Players to maximize their earnings , when opportunities present themselves to do so. I have never heard the WICBC
having a Benefit Match for any Player .

It is quite possible that if the WICBC did not have an adversary relationship
with the Players , the latter would
be interested in playing for the Region , but as I see it Hell will Freeze over , before that happens .
