HEADLINE: Narine Targeted

CaribbeanCricket.com Nov 10, 2015, 2:16:11 AM

“He is the only West Indian bowler that the opposition around the world is afraid of and I think this is the reason he is being targeted.”

West Indies mystery spinner Sunil Narine is being targeted according to cricket officials. Narine was reported with a suspect bowling action during the third ODI against Sri Lanka, which the home side won by 19 runs in Pallekele on Saturday.
The match officials’ report, which was handed over to the West Indies team management after the contest, cited concerns about the legality of the 27-year-old’s deliveries.
Narine’s bowling action will now be scrutinised further under the ICC process relating to suspected illegal bowling actions reported in Tests, ODIs and T20Is. He is required to undergo testing within 14 days, and, during this period, Narine is permitted to continue bowling in international cricket until the results of the testing are known.

Who in the world would target West Indies???

WI fans cannot draw a consensus among themselves on whether Narine is pelting or not...

If he is being targeted, let him get tested and prove them wrong. that is all.

But is it the Sri Lankans who reported him or the international elite umpires?

What ah load of rubbish. Every suspect bowler around the world has come under the spot light in the last year in international cricket. Narine should be lucky he went this long without being called.

Rangy Nanan said that he would like the umpires to go into detail to explain what they are seeing when Narine is bowling

I always wondered about that, as much as I have no problems with calling out players. Without identifying the illegality, the umps can call anyone at their whims.

But isn't it obvious they are seeing what they believe to be more than 15% of elbow straightening?

yep, but do they identify the actual delivery in their report, just wondering

he was lucky since he did not play much Jen... This is the reason I thought it was stupid of him to miss the WC since he would anyway be called the moment he plays.

navindesigns Nov 10, 2015, 5:42:36 AM

Narine should join the legends tomorrow in houston

You guys are something else--Narine's action is still the same,it is not legal
The umpires are not targeting any one particular delivery they are saying he is plain and simply
throwing or pelting all his deliveries-- period

Since being called in the IPL, he has been dodging international cricket. He pelt out Guyana and refused the WC.

He cannot be targeted if he bowled. The process of reporting a bowler involves tape reviews from the umpiring panels and not just a naked eye look or glance.

I have no sympathy for cheaters and Pelter's are cheaters.

spider Nov 10, 2015, 7:17:11 AM

In reply to Blackbird

Don't think it's fair to call them cheaters if it's not something they are doing deliberately. They want to play cricket so I'm sure they'd want to be in compliance. I'd say that most times it is a technical issue rather than one of dishonesty.

Yep... dem did identified the deliveries he did not pelt since those were few an far between, hence an easier task cool

Umpires are required to identify specific deliveries when reporting a player for a suspect bowling action. They cannot report an action as suspect without doing so.

"Why just target the off-spinners?"Ajmal asked in interviews with Zainab Abbas on Dunya News and with Geo Super. "Why not the left-arm spinners, legspinners or fast bowlers?

Pakistan's Ajmal says he is being targeted too

The rules for reporting a bowler for suspect action specifiy dat once de match is televised video footage has to be produced of de events in question or the bowler can challenge the report.

I am baffled by that one !

BeatDball Nov 10, 2015, 2:18:14 PM

In reply to maidavale Malinga doesn't pelt. Anyway, if narine pelts, it's the most smooth pelting I have ever seen! I don't see how they can say that he's pelting. I don't get it.

dayne Nov 10, 2015, 4:54:12 PM

It is interesting that Mr Mahabir said that Narine have never been called in the Caribbean when he plays. Has the Caribbean umpires ever called anyone? Kevin Cooper is the worst I have seen and he has never been called.

He has been reported--again umpires do not" call" bowlers they report them for bowling an illegal delivery or in Narine's case "suspect" bowling action

Stilbatn Nov 12, 2015, 6:52:39 PM

In reply to WestDem

I cannot answer that question Sir--Shilly's case is different than Narine's--Shilly cannot bowl the "doosra" that was the only fault they found, in Narine they are saying his bowling "action" is suspect meaning all his deliveries are not legal

methodic Nov 12, 2015, 8:11:22 PM

how come they did not report Harhajan

As I read this article, another West Indian came to mind - Jermaine Lawson. This was a very promising fast bowler until these guys learnt of him. They devised a plan to stop him in his tack, so they reported him for throwing, then they destroyed his career.
These guys could not bear the thought of another West Indian in the caliber of Holding, Roberts, Croft, Garner and Croft coming along to do to them what those great fast bowlers did.
I hope the West Indies cricket board doesn't just sit back and allow the same thing to happen to Narine.

What does that have to do with Narine....?

Cowcorner Nov 14, 2015, 8:28:51 PM

Taking the IPL money was the smartest thing Narine did. Silly article we all know that Narine's action is suspect. If he is pelting or not is another story but his action does look suspect. To say that maybe someone else is not being called so Narine shouldn't get called is childish. Simple all players with suspect actions should get called Narine included.

jen Nov 15, 2015, 6:53:38 AM

Harbhajan done get reported before plus he hardly appears in international cricket these days.

Maispwi Nov 15, 2015, 7:48:22 AM

Dis is wat WI will need to do once de testing centre is established in the Caribbean.

At de moment its too costly to send players to the nearest centre in England for testing
