CaribbeanCricket.com Dec 15, 2015, 10:48:24 AM

MELBOURNE, Australia – The West Indies Cricket Board’s Selection Panel today named fast bowler Miguel Cummins as the replacement for pacer Shannon Gabriel on the ongoing Test Series against Australia in Australia.

Cummins, 25, has taken 99 wickets at an average of 22.83 in 36 first-class matches. He has made one international appearance for West Indies – in an ODI against Ireland at Sabina Park, Jamaica in February, 2014.

The 27-year-old Gabriel suffered a stress reaction in left ankle bone while bowling in the first innings of the first Test match at the Blundstone Arena in Hobart.

He will return to Trinidad in the coming days to continue his rehabilitation.

I am sure Miguel will be willing to bowl into the wind. Good luck to him, it should be a good learning experience.

In reply to sudden... that's some decent stats ... don't?

Would be interesting to see how it compares with the Angel. Gut feeling tells me, the stats would say the Angel is no part of the Cummins, yet he was selected a head of him.

But the poor guy has to fly all the way out there...If he doesn't play in the Boxingday test, he will have 1 test at Sydney, a spinner friendly ground, to prove he belongs. The boy is at a lose-lose situation. Wishing him all the best...
Or as them say, "eat a food Cummins". big grin lol

What kid Joseph? Are you mad? That kid is preparing for the U-19 World cup so let him stay there among his peers. Cummins is a good pick and should have been there before Gabriel.

Tua Dec 15, 2015, 12:30:55 PM

seems a good pick to be with the squad even if he don't play.

Good luck young man. Make the best (definitely no pun intended) of the opportunity.

Who would you pick?

In reply to sudden

On the serious side...

Having said this before, I'll repeat.

We should use the entire Bajan team. They play cohesively as unit and would certainly give their young countryman captain their unwavering support.

seriously, who would you have picked instead of Cummins?

I saw the boys down under on Willow. They seem to be pretty upbeat. Contrary to popular belief these guys, Carlos Brathwaite, Blackwood and the Captain Holder seem to be bonding very well playing pool and echoing Gayles words in an earlier interview that they just need some time to gel and get better.
They sounded pretty confident.
It appears that Marlon Samuels is the only rotten apple in that tree notwithstanding Roach's and Taylor's mutiny about bowling up the hill.

he has sacrifice speed for accuracy, but as you said he could rev up.

methodic Dec 15, 2015, 6:47:29 PM

In reply to tc1

if he has sacrificed speed for accuracy then he will also need movement, cunning and patience.

Indeed....

It's good to see Cummins get picked in the squad, but let's not expect any miracles from him. I also expect Carlos to play ahead of him in the second Test....

So what happen to bowlers like say Cottrell? Wasn't he in the "mix" few months ago? Remember when we would pick the same 13th & 14th player back in the glory days. They would keep trying harder to make the team. The selection nowadays seem like its racehorse selections happening. Sigh..
