St. John’s, ANTIGUA - Over the last two years, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has added more competitions to its regional calendar. Teams now have an opportunity to play ten first class four-day games; a compact one-day series at the start of the calendar year and a reformatted T20 competition in the summer. The recent adoption by the Board of directors to start the cricket year in May, form just part of the overall program with which the Board thinks if followed, can help the overall plan to see the elite male team inch back its way into the top tier of international cricket.
Director of Cricket, Richard Pybus in a presentation to the executive team, remarked, “research, innovation and consistency with evidence-based practice are essential to our philosophy and approach going forward. We engaged IMG to design our mental skills program, they have delivered the training of trainers’ program and the trainers have already begun its roll out.

So the salient Question is why was this not done before ???
It seems to me that all these Rollouts
are due to the fact that the Regional Governments have lit a Fire under those in the governance of Cricket in the Region .
I hope that all this has not dissuaded
the Regional Governments from removing the WICBC from the governance of Cricket in the Region .
Cameron & Co are trying to bamboozle
the Regional Governments into letting them stay . It is just another one of the WICBC's Charades .
The Regional Governments must not fall for this Trick , Stand firm , and let them walk quietly into the Night . To let them remain will lead
not only to the dissolution of West Indies Cricket ; but the asinine idea
of those who talk about Going it Alone ; an idea that is not feasible
or viable from all perspectives .

I am not a fan of the WICB but you must admit that this is a brilliant move.
I don't think there is anyone out there who can or will criticize the WICB on this development.

In an attempt to save their hide . I am
still asking Why was this not done before ???
My Question is still unanswered . Let me ask it another way then , Do You think that the WICBC was going to do this if the threat of being removed was not hanging over its Head ???
It Supporters in this Forum have
always stated that they don't have money to do what needs to be done .
but all of a Sudden they found money
despite the pending lawsuit from the BCCI for 42 million dollars .
I am not going to buy that B.S . I have been looking at the WICBC for years , so I am very familiar with its Modus Operandi .
The two main objective , of the WICBC , is to stay in power , and ensure that the current Structure never ever changes . It is willing to do anything to ensure that it achieves its two objectives .
I want it disbanded , because if left in Office it aint going to do anything regarding the current Structure . Fire ALL of them . They had enough time to do what needs to be done and did not do a blasted thing . ALL of a sudden they have money . That aint impress me one bit . Kick them out , the sooner the better .
The WICBC commissioned several Reports , and then swiftly discarded
then , Why did they do that ??
What I have stated here aint a figment of my Imagination or a Nancy Story . The people in the WICBC are Masters of telling Nancy Stories .

you need a more compact season, that is part of the problem with player availability.

With all due respect , having a compact
season it going to help our Players in the longer versions of the game .
Let me give you my perspective of Cricket
The very first thing is that ALL Players must be grounded in all the basic Fundamentals of the game . I
also want them to read Books on Playing Cricket , they impart a hell of a lot more information than looking at TV & DVDS .
In my opinion I would have them doing all that needs to be done in playing Test Matches . That means learning the ability to Concentrate for long
Matches , train their minds to have Mental & Physical Stamina . learn the
ability to pace an innings ; and forge fruitful partnerships . Obviously these will enhance their abilities to Bat ; Bowl & Field for long Periods . Players are not born with these abilities ; they have to be learned , they cannot be bought in a Store or SuperMarket .
In essence learn to play the hard version of the game first , they will find that the other versions of the game will be easier .
I look at it from this perspective ,
the Marathon Runner can run the 200 meters race , he / she may not come in first , but I am very sure that they will finish the race .
The 200 meters Runner I doubt will finish the Marathon . because it is a much longer race than the 200 meters .

You would be right and wrong. This is DD's way of fighting off Caricom but they shouldn't be fooled. I applaud DD's political acumen but the WICB in it current state should be reformed. This is a good juncture to reset the dial. Let's start back under a different structure and go from there.

I have no doubt that everything is now being done in an effort to stave off Caricom.
My question is how can you justify removing him if he is now moving forward without any mis-steps?
This is not going to be that easy for Caricom to pull off.

That answer you given above is exactly right.
He now has to prove what he's been doing for what, like two years now?
Kay is right too, all this happening at a result of CARICOM. Cause these guys there still have enough power, political,of course, to cause Prybus and Dave and the rest to be gone.
Politics is a nasty game hey. And nuff people will kill deh own brother to stay in power, politicians, of course.

the result of pressure from Caricom
Exerting pressure to bring about change is the more logical approach, I agree with that tactic.
My question however is what type of change are you looking to bring about?
Take Mr.POINT for instance and to a lesser extent a number of other prominent posters on this board. All advocate for a total dissolution of the WICB. That is not going to happen.
As I pointed out in another thread, the President (WICB) will quickly put into place the commercial arm of the organization which will be separate and distinct from the main body, other meaningful strategies will be announce, such as this one we are currently talking about.
Add to that the soon to come announcement of full and unfettered transparency going forward.
That will be the extent of the change. It will appease the Caricom leaders and all parties will go their merry way.
A lot of fans will not be satisfied with that outcome, myself included but we must all look at these type of issues from a realistic point of view and not from an emotional subjective point of view.
Where do you stand?

Bad habits rarely die. Except for the pressure from caricom nothin has changed recently that has brought these cosmetic changes. Do you think any of these would be continued once caricom gives WICB in the current model? I doubt.
Any hope of change in WICB evaporated when Cameron was elected the second time. It is just about you scratch my back and I will scratch yours set up. Any leader coming from within is going to represent the same philosophy and not much can change.
There has to be a drastic change in the way the set up is

I am not a proponent of dissolution too and is of the view it was one of the bigger sticks Caricom had in their arsenal so why not give it a shot? It may not trigger all the changes Caricom and fans had in mind but it looks like a darn good start to me.
Let's now wait and see where it ends going forward.... baying for blood now is not the right approach in my opinion. My only concern is what +g alluded to.. politics. That may end up being the final bargaining chip

I have defended the WICB in this MB on numerous occasions where I thought it was right. I have also defended the players too, although not as much as the WICB, because I don't think they were right in certain matters.
Since DD and what has come out of his reign I think it is high time the WICB reform but it can only do so if it is dissolved and replaced by some different creature. What changed my mind are those questions Rousseau asked Cameron, which have gone unanswered. Particularly the question of whether he is an executive president or not. That has not gone down well with me. I second the recommendations of the Caricom Committee which incidentally was commissioned by the WICB who said it would abide by the decisions of the Caricom Committee.

the problem is not the people, how many of the current management has being there for 20 years? The current structure has no accountability and the president is basically a figure head who is acutely aware that he needs the board to reelect him in 3 years.

I hear you Carl. However I have read the recommendations by the Caricom Committee and it does look like they recognize the problems and I dont think that current members of the WICB would get a seat in any new structure, at least not for the long term. Of course some type of handing over mechanism will have to be in place to move seamlessly to the new creation but that is short term only.
So I don't think so Carl. I have examined the antecedents of that committee and they are v commendable to say the least. The review was well conducted, well articulated and the recommendations sound.

The WICBC has had a lot of time to fix
ALL the Problems that beset Cricket in the Region , it did nothing .
It commissioned several Reports , and then did NOTHING . Time is freaking
Up . They have to go :
FOR THE BETTERMENT OF
CRICKET IN THE REGION .
In my opinion the WICBC does not deserve a Reprieve , and it is the
Regional Governments Responsibility to tell that in crystal clear unmistakable language .
It was the WICBC itself that commissioned Several Reports and then did not do one blasted thing .
The past behaviour of Cameron & Co does not give me & others any confidence that they are very serious about Structural Changes .

POINT

It may have escaped you , but here is the point I have made & will continuously .
What the Masters of Disasters , aka Cameron & Co , are doing now cost money
now if years ago this money was put
to use , extending the duration of matches
in all formats of the game ; having an U-23 Team ; Fixing the Pitches in the Region etc . Cricket in the Region would not only be in a Disaster as it currently is in .
The standard of Cricket in the Region would have improved ; and our Payers
would be competitive in the International Cricket Arena .
Through their Lackeys , the WICBC has always maintained that they have no money to do what needs to be done .
But suddenly because the Regional Governments want to remove them , they have apparently found Gold .
So now they must be spared , and remain in place . I will not buy that
asinine suggestion . My opinion is that they need to go . To Hell with these Rollouts .
Cameron needs to tell us where they got the money to do all these Rollouts at this juncture when Cricket in the Region is abysmal .The standard of Cricket in the Region is appalling , and in the longer versions of the game our Players & Teams are Bottom Dwellers .
To wait until you are going to get fired and then proclaim that you intend to do this that and the other
informs me that the WICBC has got to go . Frankly there is absolutely nothing that Cameron & Co at this juncture can do to change my mind .
In fact the quicker they leave , the better it is for Cricket in the Region .
BTW , you have seemingly forgotten that the Regional Governments had asked the WICBC to implement the changes recommended by the Paterson Report :
CAMERON & CO BLUNTLY REFUSED THE
REQUEST OF THE REGIONAL GOVERNMENTS
AND TO SHOW THEIR DISDAIN ; THE WICBC
COMMISSIONED ANOTHER REPORT , THE
WILKIN REPORT ; AND THAT TOO THEY
REJECTED . THIS AINT A FIGMENT OF MY
IMAGINATION .
Now as I have stated often in this
Forum , the WICBC did this , when it was the Same Regional governments who used Taxpayers Money to Build new Stadia ; Renovate existing Stadia ;
sprucing up the Grounds etc . This also aint Fiction .
They are ungrateful BUMS , and to save Cricket in the Region they absolutely have to go . The WICBC is
a Cancer in West Indies Cricket , and
to survive WE have to excise the Cancer , the WICBC . WE just have to do that .
West Indies Cricket is much more important than having a bunch of Arrogant , Egotistical , Incompetent ; Inept People destroying Cricket in the Region . Under no circumstances , in my opinion , should they remain in Office .

Listen here POINT, your persistence is admired. There is only one problem that seem to be baffling you. Your statement above pinpoints your confusion.
Let me explain a fact to you, only the WICB can fire the WICB.
BTW , you have seemingly forgotten that the Regional Governments had asked the WICBC to implement the changes recommended by the Paterson Report
The above statement is meaningless. They can ask, and ask, and ask. That is all they can do.
They cannot mandate.
Pressure can and will be exerted to bring about change but the type of change you are advocating will not happen.

Cricket Boards of some Countries have been fired . I invite you to look up
Wikipedia , regarding the Pakistan Cricket Board . On 4 separate occasions the President of Pakistan fired the PCB
appointed a Chairman & an Ad Hoc Committee to govern Cricket in Pakistan until there were Fresh Elections for
Officers .
BTW , in this Forum I have stated this sometime ago . FYI the Committee
appointed by the Regional Governments
& the WICBC , cited Pakistan , and another Country . regarding the firing of Boards . Governments can take over Boards provided that they have a strong case to do so .
Governments can do that temporarily , until there are Elections for Officers on the Board . When there was a fiasco in Guyana , regarding the Guyana Cricket Board , that matter went to Court , where the HELL
was the mighty ICC & the WICBC ???
The WICBC has done enough damage to Cricket in the Region that they can be removed , and an Interim Board govern Cricket in the Region until there are fresh Elections .
My recommendation is that the Regional Governments take both the ICC & the WICBC to Court , the ICC for failing ,as the governing Entity for International Cricket , to ensure
that the WICBC exercise Good Governance of Cricket in the Region .
Let me again state that it is a travesty , that the ICC can punish
the USA Cricket Association , but allows the WICBC to become a Rogue Cricket Board .
Well regarding the WICBC it has done more than enough things for it to be removed from the governance of Cricket in the Region .
