Following a meeting between members of the CARICOM longCommittee on Cricket Governance and the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) in Grenada to discuss the findings and recommendations of the Review Panel on Cricket Governance, it was agreed that the WICB receive feedback from its constituent members and revert to the CARICOM Committee on its findings.
WICB President Whycliffe “Dave” Cameron responded by extending gratitude to CARICOM for its interest in the growth and development of the sport and said they look forward to working together to achieve our common objectives.
In a lengthy response highlighting several aspects of the deliberations, which Kaieteur Sport was able to obtain, the WICB stated its position on the matters raised by the CARICOM Review Panel. We will let our readers peruse the response and draw their conclusions on the status of our regional game and also weigh in on the deliberations.

WICB not going anywhere... They are a real powerhouse in the region.

This is really a laughable development.

In presenting this verbose document the WICB has actually pronounced a guilty verdict on itself.

The WICB in assessing its suitability and effectiveness for delivering the product (cricket) should have considered and concerned itself with the Structure of the Organisation, the various processes to achieve its strategic goals and the current poor outcomes which have been perennial. And a lack of an internal structure to undertake its own evaluation and re-evaluation.

This document endorses exactly what the various reports have concluded: A cumbersome structure which negates effective decision making; a myriad of processes and committees whose undertakings ultimately lead to poor outcomes.

The WICB should accept ownership of the poor state of West Indies cricket which it strangely admits that it is ultimately responsible for (while initially and very early in the piece downplaying this responsibility) and resign to facilitate a more modern structure which will engender efficient mgt which will lead to better results and greater accountability.

NB. These sentiments have been expressed very early here when De Courtesy joined this bored.

This document is beautifully designed to attempt to stall the Caricom cricket initiative but was engineered by a cohort of directors who are not so bright and are in fact clueless.

I have no argument as to who should lead the charge or whether Caricom is the right organisation to do so...but it is a necessary and urgent need.

Nuff said.

there is no consensus among CARICOM that change is needed, there are those who currently get enormous benefits from the current structure and are not going to push for change.

The salient Questions that the WICBC
has deliberately refused to address are the following .

1. WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE OF

COMMISSIONING SEVERAL REPORTS AND

THEN IGNORING THEM ???


2. WHY DID IT TAKE OVER TWO DECADES

TO HAVE A REGIONAL PRO LEAGUE ??


3. WHY WAS THAT NOT DONE WHEN OUR

PLAYERS & TEAM WERE THE BEST IN

THE WORLD ????


4. WHY DID N'T THE WICBC REALIZE THAT

THE CHANGE IN THE TOUR SCHEDULE

WAS ULTIMATELY GOING TO AFFECT

CRICKET IN THE REGION DUE TO THE

FACT THAT IN THE REGION THERE WAS

NOT A PRO OR SEMI PRO LEAGUE ???


5. THE REGIONAL TOURNAMENTS AT ONE

TIME HAD SPONSORS ; IT IS THE

DUTY OF THE WICBC TO TELL THE

GENERAL PUBLIC , WHY THESE

SPONSORS STOPPED BEING SPONSORS ??


These are questions that the WICBC
must answer , they are not a figment
of my Imagination , and No One can
factually dispute what I have stated .

I do not understand why Mr.Astaphan put that statement in there. Don't he understand that the two are intertwined? Disgruntled employees who know they are being treated unfairly by their employers will always under-perform.


This is twisting it a little. The team is selected with interference from WICB management. The reason why Simmonds spoke out.

Astaphan is an excellent West Indian lawyer...but in this instance he has failed to make the connection between the WICB and the poor cricket outcomes.

I understand perfectly his modus operandi. This is what I expected from a lawyer who represents the WICB.

Most of his points are lawyerly and well argued but I am baffled as to why he would state the obvious concerns of the committee and then try to make those concerns seem normal.

I don't think there was any other way to present the case. Except that he made that schoolboy error which we have highlighted.

I am sure the other strategy re: authority for dissolution of the WICB will be battled in court later on in the proceedings.

What we need to address this issue is a comment from the Chair of the Caricom Cricket committee .

He should call for a joint emergency session and shut the bandits down....

Only problem is, who controls the finances....

I am not privy as to the inner workings of CARICOM when it comes to issues such as this one.

Must there be a consensus on the issue of dissolution? If so there will be a roadblock in getting there.

That right there should be enough to immediately disqualify the entire board from managing cricket, or indeed any other enterprise. One expects that sort of shit in this Rum Shop by mental drunkards like Commie and one long suspected that the WICB actually believed this crap but it still amazing that they actually put it to paper.

The Caricom Cricket Committee will present any issue (report) to the Heads of Government. There must be consensus on any issue.

The problem has always been implementation of the decisions as was the case with Dominica's nominee for the post of Commonwealth Secretary-General.

So what happened when the Guyana Government took the Guyana Cricket Board to Court ???

Did the WICBC & the ICC go into the Court , and appear on behalf of the GCB ?? I found that interesting , since the WICBC & the ICC perpetually spout Crap about Governments must not intervene in Cricket .

In this Forum I have cited on many occasions , the fact that the President of Pakistan on 4 separate occasions fired the Pakistan Cricket Board . He appointed a Chairman & an
Ad Hoc Committee to run Cricket in
Pakistan on those 4 occasions .

Interestingly the ICC could not do one Blasted thing . So when the ICC
claims that Governments cannot intervene in Cricket , That is a Blasted Lie .

Governments however cannot run Cricket Boards Indefinitely . They can temporarily be in control of
Cricket Boards until there are new Elections for positions on the Cricket Board .
