CHENNAI, India (CMC) — A fast-bowling legend and a former Australia cricket captain have criticised the appointment of Jason Holder as West Indies captain, arguing that the decision could ruin his Test cricket career.
Former Australia captain Ian Chappell has described the decision as a “monumental blunder” while former Windies pacer Andy Roberts has suggested Holder step down from the position to salvage his career.

I have not watched very much of the West Indies in the field but I respect the words of these legends-Andy Roberts & Ian Chappell- in questioning Holder's appointment.
Are their concerns valid?
Will the powers that be listen or will they be guided by members of the insular crew who will wrap themselves in the flag and obscure the vision to even valid criticism?
If history is any guide, some these ulra-nationalists will later claim to have evidence in their 'archive' to 'prove' that Any Roberts and Ian Chappell said "Barbadian Jason Holder" is not equipped to captain the West Indies thus turn the debate about a flag than the merits of a cricketer!
We must not allow them to derail the discussion.

De archivist says: Holder remains as captain in very much the same way and thought process that Sammy was chosen.
De same ting every day. Let's move on.

I wholeheartedly agree with those two gentlemen assessment, matter of fact many others have reached the same conclusion
..this had to be a decision made by one person it would be a static anomaly to find 2 or more people of the same stupidity in the same location at the same time
oops, maybe not. Its the WICB, the collecting grounds for the common sense challenged that we talking about.

I said some time back that Holder's bowling wont develop to its full potential with him as captain, his batting will however prosper.

Wow what a stinging rebuke. And Holder's responses were as inane as I have ever heard. They are right:
The display was a genuine disgrace, from a leader who is supposed to be one of the good guys. It only shows the detriment that toxic politics can be to a young captain who is not yet sure of his own position.

So whereas I agree that Holder was not ready for the captain, apart from Bravo ( who seems too have too many personal issues), who else?
Who else on the team could captain this side. Discount Ramfin, he has already been scared.
Who else on THAT team has captaincy experience at the highest level?

The captaincy should be given to a senior player, who has already developed and built a career.
Now who should that be? Well ask the WICB since they have gotten rid of all the senior players.

So why is it that the WICBC has the blessings of ICC to be a Rogue Cricket Board ????
It is interesting that Tom , Dick &
Harry are critical of the WICBC , yet
the ICC bluntly refuses , to admonish
the WICBC regarding its Stewardship of
Cricket in the Region .

With all due respect, what does that have to do with Holder' competence, or lack o fit, as West Indies captain?
He is merely a WICB functionary toeing the company line.
The Board has a long history of being thin-skinned about even the mildest criticism, and this predates
Holder's appointment as captain.
Did Holder have a hand in banning Holding, Cozier, et al?
Was Holder captain in 2012, for example, when the profiling former CEO reportedly refused to do do an interview with Sky Sports if the panel included notable WICB critic, Michael Holding?

Ah shaddup. You are probably more thin skinned than anybody on the wicb.
Everybody gets tired of constant overstatement of the obvious.
If somebody comes harassing me about the same thing over and over again....eventually I will tell them to bugger off.
I can see why you are such a one trick pony though.
You constantly invoke people who are no longer involved in Windows test cricket.
Time to find a new drum to beat.

I am going on record as saying these legends chatting garbage, rubbish, balderdash!
What happen to these dinosaurs?
Holder will be facting 25 next year. Look at the accomplishments of many youths in Jason's age group in the many different spheres of life!
In fact, 24 is facting old!
I hate when ppl despise or undermine wat youth can do
Cricket is no rocket science!

name me 5 captains who led a national team at 24 or 25 in the last 25 years.
i do not buy into the age requirement if the person has demonstrated good leadership quality.Very few 24 y.o are top managers at a fortune 500 company.

Jason Holder is not captain material as yet.
He should have captained his Barbados side a few years and learned the ropes before giving him this mantle or poisoned chalice.
As for LLoyd he has made him the captain so the man will have to bear this burden as long as LLOYD IS ON THE SELECTION PANEL.
We keep focusing on the team but our guns should be trained on the selectors.
That bunch who has tasted unprecedented success should know what it is to lose and then win.
This SQUAD is in no class as that 75/ 76 squad.
Talent is deficient and management is piss poor.
So poor Jason will look like Sammy soon.

how does that affect his observation here, if I remember correctly two Bajans, Howard and Holder were WI pitch inspectors and they certified the same pitch!

My view is different to yours and others.
If you are going to make an inexperience youngster captain, help him along during the game.
A management team with so many former players, should guide him during the match, the coaches and management team can see thing thru video during the match, that the young cannot see, dont wait for an interval, find ways of getting it to him.
The T20 format show us, how communication can work during a game, lets think outside the box, and help the young captain.

This chap has to score n take wickets on a consistent basis n WI troubles are over. A captain leading from the front is of utmost importance. Ah me seh suh. N of course, the foreign n domestic cakaholes will then cease n desist their skuntery.

Are you telling me the two Bajans are professional curators?
Dude, I am bajan by birth, love the Island and its people, but I am not everything bajan.
That's what learning and growing is all about.
If you are going to make Holder captain, help him along.

Btw, why is all of this, domestic, criticism of Holder's leadership? I was on DR`s donkey cart from inception. His scoring consistently had given him the nod. Then his batting slumped. So, wicb made a bold move. U chaps have to understand that a captain not leading from the front, breaks morale. Get it? It breaks morale. N that shoite leads to disunity in the team.

What has Holder accomplished. He was given a job he did not deserve primarily because he could demand a place in the final XI. Now by default he demands such a place.

You ever heard of Mike Brearley probably one of the finest captains in international cricket in the last 40 years rarely ever led from in front.
