SYDNEY, Australia (CMC) – West Indies legend Clive Lloyd has made a passionate plea for the international powers to offer more assistance to West Indies cricket.
Lloyd, the captain of the all-conquering team of the 1970s and ’80s, is chairman of selectors and is with the team in Australia for the ongoing Frank Worrell trophy series.
Speaking on a wide range of topics, he argued that the game in the Caribbean was in need of resources to aid with development and progression, and called on the world governing body, the International Cricket Council, to act on its behalf.
“To run cricket you have to have quite a lot of money. We’re not as wealthy as the other countries. We did well in the ’70s and ’80s because we were coming as champions and if you’re coming as champions you can demand something,” the 71-year-old Lloyd told reporters here Friday.

the big 3 received enough pounding from us in the glory days to want to spend a dime on us
not for us to reach those heights again

I agree with him that WI should be supported, they're too important a part of our game. But a large part of the problems are self-inflicted - poor infrastructure, poor grassroots planning, subpar player development and poor administration. That's got to be fixed first. You can get as much support as possible but without fixing the fundamentals it won't really make a difference

That is how you get rid of this present board. Announce you will support the WI cricket financially with subventions but only if there is a new regime that is open, accountable and less cumbersome

Never thought I would paraphrase Dr. Hilaire but didnt he say that all the players talk about is money---- now Lloyd says
We did well in the 70s and 80s because we were coming as champions and if youre coming as champions you can demand something,
the 71-year-old Lloyd told reporters here Friday.
now what role did money play in creating champions then?.........
I go back home and see grounds we use to play cricket on grounds I use to think were pristinely level
now I realize they were on hillsides our rollers didnt have the weight to smooth out pitch surface so you would never get the same bounce from any 2 deliveries
..for most WI players in the heyday, cricket was a hobby most had a regular job
..
well, many will say professional sport players make a lot of money today
TRUE
..but thats usually after they proven their worth
..our guys are saying --- give me the money then I will show you how good I am.

What the ICC should understand is a chain is no stronger than its weakest link.
The NFL, the most successful sports league on the planet, figured this out many moons ago.
Revenue is divided evenly among all 32 teams.
New York, metro population 20 million gets the same amount of money as Green Bay, population one hundred thousand.

Cast your minds back to 2014 ,when players walked out of the Indian tour . 65% pay cut approved by the WICB and WIPA . Some players have never made it back to the WI team in any format . When the world was asking where are your best players for the 50 over world cup . With Gayle speaking his mind openly . Youth is the way forward was the word from LLoyd . Now with salaries open and discussion in the test arena , Aussie earn 65% more per test , some say they love test cricket . However on closer inspection this format is the highest paying for any Australian on national duty. Cry wolf ?

You are Right on the Money . As have stated in this Forum on several occasions :
MORE CRICKET IS PLAYED OFF THE FIELD
THAN ON THE FIELD .
The reason why England decided to
limit Overseas Players from playing
Cricket in England was due to the fact that our Players were making a
Living , playing Cricket in England , and beating its Team badly in the
Internationally Cricket Arena .
YOU may not believe that , however
find out who had the fastest Bowlers
in the World when it was decided to
have the 1 Bouncer per Over Rule .
It aint also too farfetched , to state that the changing of the International Tour Schedule was also aimed at Our Players .
England new that there was not a Pro or Semi Pro League in the Region , it also was well aware that the many matches that were played before the Test Matches made your Players not only fully honed , they also served to make our Players acclimatized to the weather & conditions of the Pitches .
Obviously , the WICBC assisted in the decline of Cricket in the Region , because they did not have the foresight & Vision , to realize what
was happening & happened .
3 Freaking years ago , it dawned on them that should should form a Pro League , but it is too freaking late . Now that their jobs are being threatened they have suddenly found Money to do all sorts of Rollouts .
They have no credibility , so also are their Lackeys in this Forum who were continuously whining about the WICBC not having any money . It now turns out that was a colossal Hoax .
