Tony Irish, chief executive of the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations, told The Telegraph that free agency is becoming more tempting for players around the world thanks to the commercial success of T20 cricket and the lack of context that accompanies bilateral series.
FICA has now called for the ICC to change the way Test cricket is run and is vehement that this happens before 2019 when the current future tours program ends, warning that format risks losing its best players otherwise.
“If we wait until 2019 then bilateral cricket around the world is going to be in real trouble,” Irish said.
“The worrying thing is that the players are telling us that if things don’t change they will be turning more to T20 leagues.

ICC needs to introduce and implement an annual schedule of all test matches and request strict adherence by all T20 tournament organizers to adhere to such stipulated schedules by refraining from playing any T20 matches at such time periods, thus giving international players the freedom to play for their respective countries while fulfilling contractual obligations with their respective T20 teams or both T20 clubs and players face ICC sanctions and fines.
