St. John’s, ANTIGUA - The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) is in receipt of 12 signed contracts from players who were selected for the upcoming 2016 ICC World Twenty20 tournament. Those players who were originally named in the 15-man squad include:

Sulieman Benn, Jason Holder, Andre Fletcher, Darren Sammy – captain

Dwayne Bravo, Samuel Badree, Lendl Simmons, Jerome Taylor,

Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels, Denesh Ramdin, Chris Gayle

Following the withdrawal of Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard, selectors have named Ashley Nurse and Carlos Brathwaite respectively, to replace them.

Middle-order batsman, Darren Bravo has since written to the selectors to say, “Indeed I'm very grateful and humbled for the opportunity to represent the West Indies Cricket Team at the World Cup. However, I'm of the firm belief that I have a very big part to play in the resurgence of West Indies cricket in the longer formats of the game and I will like the opportunity to play in our Professional Cricket League (PCL) because it will put me in good stead and will allow me to achieve those goals that I have aligned myself for the year 2016 and beyond.”

The selectors will name Bravo’s replacement shortly.

Much respect to Darren Bravo, lift my hat to him, well thought out decision, we definitely need someone to take the lead in terms if performance on the test team, while not adopting to the T20 hit and miss mentality but focus in building test innings.

In my opinion Charles of Windward island is the best replacement we have in the Caribbean. They just have to have him open with Gayle and bat Fletcher in the 3 spot.

Concerning the Darren Bravo saga, I do not believe the story he gave at all. I think there is more to it. If he is serious about test cricket, I want to see if he will also withdraw himself from the CPL.

A question we should ask, has Darren Bravo ever played a match for a Sammy captained team since the two had that incident in NZ about two years ago? I think Bravo might be avoiding having to play for Sammy.
