HEADLINE: WICB using Under-19 win to say everything is fine

The triumph of the West Indies Under-19 side at the World Cup recently was rightly praised. It was pleasing to see the young side come through unscathed on the world stage, and there were some quality cricketers in the team. For all the well-deserved praise of the young side, however, it is ridiculous that the victory is being used by some at the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) to portray the image that everything is fine in the Caribbean. The same claim was being made when the senior team won the Twenty20 (T20) World Cup in 2012, but where has our cricket gone since then?
But I suppose that is to be expected. When the whole world is saying something is wrong, the WICB will grab at any passing straw.
I suppose they are looking for reasons to justify Whycliffe ‘Dave’ Cameron, the WICB president, announcing the rejection of the proposals of the Caricom committee, which included the dissolution of the Board among other things. I’m not too sure exactly what the implications are. But it seems as though any report that is published, whether it’s commissioned by the WICB or otherwise, they just ignore it. And if at all they are doing anything, it is implementing those that don’t change the status quo. The Caricom prime ministers are a powerful group of people from the Caribbean with a lot of influence, but every time they say something or try to influence anything, the WICB just ignores it. They keep on saying they’re a private entity, that they are registered outside of the cricket-playing Caribbean, and that their company is responsible only to their directors and shareholders.

The arrogance of the WICB is what really gets me the most. It's unbearable. They claim they own something that was never theirs.
It's like when you ask people to manage a plot of land and 10 years later they are claiming it as theirs.
It's why I don't totally support abolishing gun rights.

And, by the way, on the subject of being able to pay, I read recently that the CEO of the WICB used the three-country takeover of the ICC as the reason why the WICB has struggled with finances recently. Didnt he ask his President Cameron where the extra funds that he, Cameron, reported the WICB would be getting with the new deal, was? Didnt Cameron come back after agreeing to the three-country takeover saying that the WICB would be better off? Apparently, the CEO and the president arent on the same page.
CAMERON IS CLEAN BOWLED ...AGAIN...and I bet he will ask for a review

But isn't it the dumbass people in the region who vote in the presidents of the regional boards who then become directors of WICB?
Each Government has to clean up their local board...the previous Guyana government tried by forming an interim management committee with Clive Lloyd at the helm...nothing changed as the WICB snobbed the Interim committee...and the Guyana cricket board also ignored the decisions of the Guyana courts with impunity...the opposition at the time( NOW the government) had a big hand to play in this....to make a long story short...the cricket is still in a mess...and no accountability.

The WICBC was perhaps a willing tool of England ; Australia & India in the decision of those 3 joint collusion to
take the Lions share of the ICC Profits .
Even the People in England are protesting the action of the ECB .
They have rightly stated that the
main purpose of the ICC is to spread
Cricket throughout the World .
The fact of the matter is that both
the ICC & the WICBC can be described
as being Rogue Boards . The ICC Members have allowed England ; Australia & India to hijack the Organization .
For many years now the WICBC Emperors
have been allowed to do as they want
regarding Cricket in the Region ; with their 89 years old Structure .

Well well said Narps and therin lies the main problem. You get the leaders you deserve.
A people that seem willing to turn a blind eye and even partake in local and regional corruption seems to deserve a WICB as ours. It's a dumb and dumber situation. Our cricket just reflects the region.
From day one I was stumped about how Keet and/or Ralph will call for transparency and accountability on the WICB when there is none in their governments. Now Skerrits joins the party, you know he wont get left out...its one big lavway.
Dave Cameron and his appraoch to WICB management, is a mini me of them all.
The solution has to be a body developed with some professional extra regional help.
God help us.

No... not even close. The WICB is a lawfully registered and incorporated body with shareholders.... period!!!
Nobody made them managers in trust 10 years ago

That would've been derived from the fateful Indian tour. You remember the one that was abandoned? The one that instead of netting a profit, ended with the WI owing some $43 million.

No you are missing it.
Fact is whatever and wherever the WICB was incorporated and whether it has been 100 years, not 10, makes no difference. It fits the reference i gave.
THE BODY IS ENTRUSTED to MANAGE CRICKET ON BEHALF of these 8M real living and breathing shareholders. Not just those who signed their names.
People as you and Dave are making a historically immoral argument.
We (the people) own cricket regardless of where and who incorporated that rude and fresh upstart called the WICB.

Hold on a minute. Kay is right. The WICB is made up of six regional boards. I will use BCA, on of the six, to illustrate. The BCA is comprised of a number of clubs and some other members, i.e. it is essentially a private members club. About 200- 300 hundred members attend BCA meetings and vote for officials, two of, who go on to serve on WICB. So of the 280kplus people in Barbados less than 500 decide WICB board membership. I have every reason to believe Barbados is not unique and the same thing is replicated across the region.
Therefore the masses that you talk about have no say in who runs WI cricket.

The fact is that the WICB derives its authority from the ICC, regardless of legal status, business structure, etc.
Its control of regional cricket cannot be effectively challenged by regional governments, the public, etc. Only the players collectively, or an alternative organization willing and capable of defying the ICC could do that.
The Guyana government unwittingly tried to set up an alternative governing body locally, but failed because of poor problem definition, personal agendas, etc.
The only organization around with that capability is the American Cricket Federation, but they need hardening and ambition.

People as you and Dave are making a historically immoral argument.
Go to page 7 of the WICB INC. Audited financial statements and read the notes.
The Board is owned jointly by six (6) regional territorial boards as follows:
Leeward Islands Cricket Association, Windward Islands Cricket Board of Control, Jamaica Cricket Association, Barbados Cricket Association, Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board, Guyana Cricket Board.
Now answer this: Do you vote for the representatives of your cricket board who go on to represent you (as you claim) at the WICB?
See Fuzzy's post above for an elaboration of this point....

So tell me O learned persons the following questions :
HOW MANY STADIA IN THE REGION DOES
THE WICBC & THE TERRITORIAL BOARDS
OWN ????
SINCE THE WICBC IS SO POWERFUL WHY
DID IT BEG FOR TAXPAYERS MONEY TO
HOST THE 2007 CRICKET WORLD CUP IN
THE REGION ????
WHY IS IT THAT THE WICBC IS BEGGING
THE REGIONAL GOVERNMENTS TO INVEST
FINANCIAL RESOURCES IN THE WICBC ????
I recall that " Dem that pay the Piper are those that call the Tune ".
I have no problem with the WICBC getting Taxpayers Money via the
Governments of the Region .
However they will have to be subjected to the dictates of those who are giving them money . There aint no such thing as a FREE LUNCH .

And rightly so because they are listed as the owners. The problem is that the territorial boards are themselves all corrupted so it ends up being a collaborative gamut of collusion at the top....
Caricom is approaching this backwards. They should be working with their members first to fix their individual boards so that the right people gets to make decisions at the WICB level...

Caricom can take a decision to make the cricketing grounds in the West Indies unavailable to the WICB.......
Wonder how that will go down on the eve of the home series vs India

Well the reality is that the WICB have already attempted to 'divide and conquer' the Caricom territories by their comments last week towards the TT PM, basically threatening the Test match in that country.
If Caricom is serious, it needs to be united and take a stand in the short term that could potentially benefit WI cricket in the long term.
Out of curiosity.....how many Caricom ventures are run successfully.....?

The WICB successfully thwarted the Guyana government's attempt to topple it via an alternative territorial board by refusing to recognize that alternative board.
That's all the WICB needs to do to prevent regional boards from becoming recalcitrant. You cannot topple the WICB through the territorial boards after a majority of the boards have been manned with the "right" people.

This won't work, it was tried in Guyana. Some very smart corrupt people subverted the local elections and the results were backed up by the WICB and the ICC. The way you kill a snake is to severed its head. We need to cut off their use of the Stadiums.....
