HEADLINE: Cease and settle!

CaribbeanCricket.com Apr 6, 2016, 3:09:15 AM

Former (Barbados)Prime Minister Owen Arthur today called for a “moratorium on controversy” in West Indies cricket, while stating that he was not only bowled over by recent comments made by the President of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Dave Cameron and the region’s T20 skipper Darren Sammy, but also by the persistent demands by some of his former prime ministerial colleagues for the disbandment of the WICB.

“People are not focusing on cricket
per se and that is what the focus needs to be. They have to find a way to work together now in good faith,” said Arthur, while hailing Sunday’s World T20 cricket victory by both the Windies men’s and women’s teams as a “wonderful achievement” and a positive indication that “West Indies cricket is not dead”.

However, he said “like all Caribbean people, I was soaring on the realms of pride, [before] the moment was sullied when both the team leadership and the West Indies Cricket Board foisted upon the international community’s attention and imagination the extent of the conflicts among themselves, and I think that was tarnished a bit by that conflict”.

Matters cannot be settled when dealing with People steeped in Arrogance .
CAMERON & CO MUST GO . I am surprised
that Owen Arthur would spew such nonsense .

I would like him to publicly state what
the thinks of the fact that :

THE WICBC COMMISSIONED SEVERAL

REPORTS AND IGNORED THE SALIENT

FEATURES ALL OF THEM .

I WOULD ALSO LIKE OWEN ARTHUR TO

STATE PUBLICLY WHAT HE THINKS ABOUT

THE FACT THAT THE CURRENT STRUCTURE

OF THE WICBC IS 89 YEARS OLD ???

Lets say Cameron goes. Are the changes made under Cameron going too? No more PCL no more
CPL? The Constitution of most Governments in the world is over 89 years old. Please stop saying Cameron must go without laying out your vision for Cricket in the WI. Birds of a feather flock together. If the players are making the money for the WICB then they should have the balls to strike like the American baseball players and American football players.

Players should put up or shut the hell up. Complain, complain and get ready for the next series.

seaegg99 Apr 6, 2016, 7:33:20 AM

Owen just grandstanding. We know he means well for the cricket but I think he is being a politician here. You can't deal with someone that at each turn have never shown an interest in dealing in good faith. The show on the field is still the focal point after all. The WIBC want to keep themselves front and center and this should not be. They like Owen seeks the spotlight at the expense of who should be getting it. Owen was a good leader unlike the empty suit leading Barbados now. Owen like the WIBC should go in the background.

Ninetenjack Apr 6, 2016, 8:03:34 AM

Sorry Owen, the WICB has refused to reform its governance...they need to go. The regional governments need to deny the use of its assets (the stadiums) until they come around.

We are not asking the regionals to run cricket we are asking for reform which has been delayed, denied and ignored by the WICB, even by the various studies commissioned by the WICB.

Do you think it was the wrong time and place?

I have laid out my vision before , perhaps you did not know that . In my
opinion there must be One Entity with
2 Departments .

A Cricket Department & an Administrative Department . The Cricket
Department is to be staffed & governed
by Former Great Players , because they did , in my opinion a magnificent job in being in charge of the Regional format of the shortest version of the game .

Which is why credit for the performances of our Senior Players
cannot be credited to the WICBC . Sadly , I have yet to hear the Sports Media and the WICBC thank those former Players for their Services .

I want them to to be in charge of everything pertaining to Cricket .They in my opinion know what must be
done to lift the standard of Cricket in the Region in every aspect of the game .

The there would be the Administrative Department with the usual compliment of People , President ; Vice President , Treasurer , Secretary , etc .

THEY WILL NOT HAVE VETO POWER OVER

THE CRICKET DEPARTMENT .

4 Times a year unless there is an emergency Meeting , the Cricket Department & the Administrative Department will meet jointly , this will include the Annual General Meeting .

Ancillary personnel , like PR; LAWYERS etc would also be in the Administrative Department .

Thanks for your support , I think that
it is absolutely insane for Cameron to be staying in a Hotel very near to the Hotel the Players were staying , and did not even go to see the Players or send a Congratulatory Message .

It demonstrates the utter contempt
that Cameron & the Board have for the Players ; it is unbelievable . The
reason I call them MIMIC MEN , is due
to the fact that they love copying the way & manner those who founded
the WICBC behaved .

My take is that this is precisely why
Cameron & Co have absolutely no intention of changing the Current Structure .

I was aware that he was in India..but not for one second did I think that he was literally in the Hotel next door.

One cannot excuse such..that is even worse than the tweets and is clear proof that the man does not understand his role or his deliverables.

His sole focus is money and a bottom line for his legacy...and after that farce of an AGM...I am very convinced that too many characters in position are willing to support him so they too can serve themselves

the Orgy of piss poor governance is sickening ...all for now.

Point you have been writing for months about WICB and to this day you have not given any props to these former players. You don't have to wait on the Media. You are the Media. Tell us some names, and tell us where they worked, some of their students etc. You did mention the shortened game but as you know its the lengthened game WI have a problem with right now. In your vision for the organization I could not figure out who exactly was in charge since the Admin side could not veto the Cricket side.

I really don't see what the problem is with Cameron not visiting the Team. Professionals shouldn't have to be patted on the head/back for doing what they are paid to do. I do believe that Sammy gave the speech for a losing team not a winning Team. I don't believe that he believed the team would win the final game.

No, absolutely not the wrong time and place. But you cannot equate the two, one is a human rights protest against the establishment and the other is a disgruntled employee complaining against a dysfunctional organization.Sammy is a well-paid employee of that organization and his and some/all of his teammates disputes revolve around money. As we now know, the uniform thing was not confirmed earlier because the players were threatening possible actions, and as they have shown previously, they are willing to pull out of a series. It would not have made sense to finalize uniform and names prior to confirming who were going.

That said, it appears there are major communication and organizational issues between the WICB President and the team that needs to be addressed. Deal with that offline. Or make a subtle remark that opens the door to future collaboration. Sammy knows he's done and decided to embarrass them as a final parting shot. That was unfortunate. Changes are certainly needed cricket-wise, not only with the board, but with local territories. Somehow, though, three (3) championship teams emerge.

Meanwhile, I cannot believe I am defending the Board to some small extent, as I have called for drastic changes before, but this is how I see this particular situation. Not to lose sight of the prize, the establishment exists for one purpose - to win, and win it did and has done, on three occasions this year.

Correct is right!

Sammy is a free loader in my view, but if one counts clapping as a contribution on the field of play - ahmmmmm, he is not!

Lets hail a great talk by Owen of Barbados!

seaegg99 Apr 7, 2016, 4:03:06 AM

Owen on his way out but still want to be in the spotlight. The Caribbean will always be blessed with tremendous athletes for any type of sport but when the suits want to make it about themselves the whole thing comes apart. If you watch how great sports teams are run, it is not about the management teams but the product they put out. That is why the TEAM and players names are in the limelight and not the management. Owen is a suit with a big ego and a politician's need to be noticed.
