HEADLINE: Trinidad Oval gets India Test match

CaribbeanCricket.com May 5, 2016, 2:49:47 AM

Test cricket returns to T&T with the fourth and final Test match against India being staged at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, from August 19-24.

The T&T government is among four in the region who have decided not to stand in the way of the staging of matches, despite calling for the dissolution of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, who has been vocal in his condemnation of the WICB, has said he will not get in the way of cricket being played here and he has stuck to his word.

The first Test which is expected to get underway mid-July will take place in Antigua, with the second in St. Lucia and the third, Jamaica.

Guyana, who traditionally hosts India because of the large population of East Indians there, will miss out. Instead, one of the three legs of the tri-series involving the West Indies, Australia and South Africa will be played there.

I find it amusing the "journalist" still uses the terms "East Indians" to describe Trinidadians (and also BG-ites) of Asian Indian ancestry. This term is old school- it was used in my days when the arrival of Asian Indians were still fresh in our collective memory.

The proper term should be Asian Trinidadians or even Indo Trinidadians- I see this term use frequently in Trinidad, yet the feller choose to use "East Indians" should not the editor correct his error?

Can't believe Barbados isn't getting a Test in a series of this magnitude. Indians will be skeptical to travel to Trinidad and Jamaica given the violent and crime infested nature of those two countries.

Very sad. Antigua, really? Stupes. Are they being given a Test so that the West Indies can avoid a whitewash?

In reply to Devin... they should feel right at home...

In reply to EmirYes I do hear that term quite often by Trinidadian journalists,it really should be Indo Trini just like we say Afro Trini. They need to be taught history.

Why wouldn't they prefer fast bouncy pitches, they got a list of better fast bowlers and as fast as ours, their batsmen are also better, that argument don't stand up now.

cool

I rarely see any Indians when I'm in Barbados. And I'm there yearly.

Fast and bouncy? Stupes. The Indians have scored well in Australia and South Africa in recent times.
