Mr. Darren Sammy, the distinguished West Indian cricketer, has advised me that, in your capacity as Chairman of the Selectors of the West Indies Cricket Team, you peremptorily informed him in a 30 second telephone conversation that he was being removed as the Captain of the West Indies T-20 Team and that his recent performances did not merit him a place on the team for the upcoming T-20 matches against the touring Indian Team.

I find this shabby treatment of Mr. Sammy to be unacceptable; indeed, I am sure that all right-thinking persons are extremely dissatisfied at your unceremonious and summary dismissal of Mr. Sammy as Captain and player. You simply cannot treat a former captain of the West Indies Test Team and a successful captain of two successive World Cup T-20 Championships with such disdain! Further, your sacking of Mr. Sammy, and the manner of his termination, on the eve of a Test Match in Mr. Sammy’s country, St. Lucia, to be played at the stadium which bears his name, display breathtaking insensitivity.

Elemental respect and common decency demand that once the Selectors had decided to remove Mr. Sammy as Captain and as player of the T-20 team, he ought to have been accorded the courtesy of a dignified face-to-face meeting with you, and his support enlisted for the transitioning to the new captain. Does the leadership of the West Indies Cricket Board or Chairman of Selectors have no sense of professionalism or any inkling of what is right or wrong in professional/industrial relations?

Did you read the letter? Can you read? The PM NEVER dealt with selection. The letter is about common decency and respect.

Sammy deserves more than a 30 second phone call.If the WICB continues to discard players like used condoms, then they have no moral authority to question players' loyalty. Our current and upcoming players will seek to become t20 mercenaries and gravitate towards the highest bidder.

Ralphie is a good man...and has the players' welfare at heart...he has been consistent over the years.

Ralphie is right...at least Sammy deserves a face to face meeting...regardless of Sammy's personal contribution with bat or ball...no one can erase the fact that he was the WI cappo who brought home two World Cups...and he has been a long term cappo.

Well...if we take the personality out of the equation...then it's how the cappo of the WI team is fired...and that is the gist of Ralphie's letter.

WIPA should be concerned about this. ALL players should be treated with some respect and dignity.

Very well said Mr. Gonsalves! I just wish the region had more prime ministers with a passion for cricket like we had in the 80's to late 90's. The way the administrators and selectors are dealing with our cricketers is very bad and that's hurting and killing our cricket. That's how good players like Kanhai, Richards, Robert, Holding, Ambrose, Haynes, Lara, Gayle, Sanwan, Bravo, Chanderpaul and others were treated and nothing has changed. In fact in recent times the only former player that retired with some dignity was Walsh.

I really think the idea of replacing Sammy with Carlos Brathwaite makes some sense but the timing and manner it was handled were terrible. It would have been much better if Sammy was told that the Florida series would be his last one and then, make Brathwaite vice captain. They should use the Florida tour to give Sammy a good fairwell and have him to groom his successor. That would be a better situation for Brathwaite and would spark confidence in the entire team. Mr. Brown and all selectors should resign or get fired.

He was a passenger all along and I had been clear about that all along.

What Lara did, Hooper did, Gayle did, Chanders did, Sarwan did, Bravo did and Sammy did are all reflection of the system.

You can see the dissent consistently getting worse and worse since dissent is not addressed inappropriately and with more disrespect by the board.

I would not be surprised if the next by anyone is even worse. Based on the flag some support WICB or the player involved but the common base is that Board considers players useless and treats them as they feel like and players react.

Essentially, he was fired in normal parlance--If people think speaking up against your employer is gonna merit kudos from them its nothing but a pipe dream. Scammy rode his appointment despite his severe limitations and did very well of which I think he is grateful. However, the few who think he was this great leader is delusional and suffering from Trumpism..

The board can do better but, they lack people skills--Plus its the boys club so he really was treated kindly.

Just go and live your life Scammy--He can suck on that bottle as much now..lol
