The proposal for a two-tier structure in Test cricket has been withdrawn by the ICC, at the meeting of its chief executives committee (CEC) in Dubai on Wednesday, despite six Full Members reportedly being in favour of it. There was no vote at the meeting but the consensus was to take the proposal "off the table" for the moment.

"There was a significant compromise and it was subsequently decided to withdraw the two-tier proposal," a chief executive who attended the meeting told ESPNcricinfo. He said the BCCI, Sri Lanka Cricket, the BCB and Zimbabwe Cricket had opposed the proposal, which had found support from the boards of Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan and West Indies.

"We are delighted we could convince other members of the negative impact it would have on Bangladesh cricket," BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury told ESPNcricinfo. "I thank them for understanding our situation. I also want to thank the ICC management for organising this workshop. The two-tier system is off the table, and we will now discuss the future structure of cricket in the coming days."

Cause even if they were to win in Tier 2 what happens when you get promoted only to be relegated the next cycle?
Did we get some money from teh ECB or CSA or CA to support this deal like maybe an upcoming tour?
I mean I can't tell if the head of the Board have backbones at all.

The current WICB members should resign because of its support of the two-tier system… It is ..


1. A betrayal of the West Indian cricket fans since they would be denied the opportunity of enjoying the world’s best cricketers at home.

2. A betrayal of West Indies cricket since the opportunity for playing against the best cricketers would probably not be possible for decades.

3. A betrayal because of its negative effect on the development of WI domestic cricket since interest in the game would wane.

4. A betrayal because it is just NOT in the best interest of West Indian cricket.

5. A betrayal because WICB’s fiduciary responsibility is the development of WI cricket and a two-tier system would negatively affect its growth

Further, ICC should take a page out of the NBA and aggressively seek to promote the world wide growth of crucket

I can't wait to hear someone from WICB give an explanation as to why they supported the two-tier system.

It's a disgrace that the WICB supported the 2-tier system, and before that the establishment of the big 3.

the board looks at West Indies cricket as a cash point. If they go down to tier two then the demands for the best players get lost among other things. They will probably reduce contracts more and they will appear to be more successful.

They are 10 teams playing test cricket.....why the need to split that up so badly, where was this idea when England and Australia were poor teams of the 80s and 90s, this two tier system will stifle our cricket and hurt our economies, given that England, Australia and India will no longer be visiting, sorry but i just don't see droves of Bangladeshis, or Afghans coming for test cricket this part of the world

Promotion and relegation will always work in other league sports, where a franchise can buy themselves a strong team, not so with cricket, the development curve is much longer a strong team can be around for 15 to 20 years, good sides get strong by playing stronger opposition, Sri Lanka is a top team now but in the 80s they were whipping boys, Zimbabwe was doing fine, even challenging us, until a player exodus hurt them badly and look at Bangladesh, we would be hard press to beat them in a test match right now, all because they played stronger opposition, i don't see any one in tier 2 helping us to get stronger, i see stagnation and revenue losses

I find it very interesting that there
has not been a word regarding the
Hijacking of most of the International Cricket Cabal Profits
by England ; Australia & India .

These three Countries are really the
Pirates of International Cricket ,
apparently they coerced the other Countries to give them the Lion's share of the ICC profits .
