Jason Holder will continue as captain of the West Indies Test team for the upcoming tour of the United Arab Emirates but has been given a serious dressing down from chairman of selectors Courtney Browne.
Going into the WICB’s weekend meeting in Dominica, there was speculation that former coach of the team, Phil Simmons, and skipper of the Test team Jason Holder would have been removed. Simmons was fired and now information coming to hand is that Holder will retain his position as captain of the team.
The West Indies will play three Test matches against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates beginning on October 13. The first match will be historic for the West Indies, as it will be their first ever day/night Test.
Guardian Media understands that a note was passed to the board of directors on the weekend about Holder and it stated that the chairman had a frank talk with him concerning his form in the longer format of the game and whether he warrants selection outside of being captain.

Not just Holder but the entire test team needed reprimanding, need to start taking their wickets seriously and bowl consistently well. We have to be able to put up enough runs on the boards, bowl out teams twice, take all catches, don't give away our wickets stupidly like going after balls outside the off stumps etc., and just be consistently competitive. We are interested in moving up the ranking!
Last but not least the selectors also need reprimanding for they should always select the best players for every team.

I find it real funny that they created a situation for Jason Holder to fail and when he failing they want to reprimand him. Steups. Another good prospect wasted by the WICB.

What year are you living in? 1980? There is no real talent in this team. Name one world class player - just one. Like so many here you continue to live in the past and not face reality. Lots of well documented reasons why. Just read any post by Point.

I guess we are all satisfied with our test team's performances. Why change anything? Mediocrity and the lowest test ranking are comfortable and seemingly becoming acceptable.

Nobody, not a single soul is happy with the way things are going in west indies cricket, but you are behaving like if they do all these things you are suggesting that things will turn around overnight, I get the impression that you are one of the 'fans/supporters' that believe that you can turn around this situation by thinking it into being.......Mediocrity is not limited only to the west indies, but while others have things in place to deal with their issues, we have an establishment that is steeped in pettiness and self-aggrandizement, (The act or practice of enhancing or exaggerating one's own importance, power, or reputation.)so we would always have issues, and the off-field will always hamper the on-field. We need to change the face and pace of west indies cricket, then and only then, will the players be able to relax and think about the cricket, the rankings will come.....just saying.

Ok well-said but how do you presume our approach regarding the planning and implementation of such changes, as an organization is usually reluctant to make any changes relating to its structure or governance unless under duress or chance of increase profitability.

I support the reading of the riot act perform or be gone!
For too long many of our players are on a joy ride time to stand up and be counted.

That is the situation the ambitious and real go getters relish to prove their metal
That is the situation that really separates men from boys
That situation was the ultimate challenge thrown out to the youngster
That same situation have brought world greats to the fore from virtual oblivion
Too early to say if he failed in all of the above but he should be thanking to the WICB for the trust and faith shown in his talent and game to throw him in that same situation. He either sink or swim .... no in-between to save him.
Or maybe .... the reprimand is just another lifeline he should be thankful for

Jason Holder should NOT have been "reprimanded" in public.
He is the Captain and his ability to lead the team has been compromised.

We need to start over......it may be too late, but better late than never, we need to wipe the slate CLEAN, no left overs, create a new entity with fresh blood, from the top to the bottom........it will be hard because these island are steeped in insularity but I believe that there are some people out there who cannot be bought, but they have to be found, we need and entity that will hold the WICB accountable for every action it take.......we need a secretariat with a chairman, but that person should be an upstanding citizen, I would rather someone from the ICC, and let the CEO, the President and his Deputy report to that person, every move should be accounted for, and the lackeys, they will be made to know their places........we need organisation in this place, for too long people has come in and made a hash of things, and the territorial boards cannot do any thing because most of them are in these people pockets....it is painful and it hurts to the core when people are allowed to destroy west indies cricket..........somebody, somewhere need to do something and fast, or else the only people that will be shifted all the time are players, coaches, etc....and the people that killing the thing is being allowed to get away with murder.

I don't have a problem if Brung is going to be consistent with ALL the players selected
Riot acts should be read to the seniors like Samuels and Bravo too.
I also want to hear about reprimands when WICB and team management screws up too...especially when they have direct impact on players' performances... examples...inadequate preparation time for test matches...or inadequate availability of practice facilities

Who wrote this article? This article is meant more to inflame rather than anything else. The language use is pitiful and it coming from Trinidad. Holder took over from Ramdin and Simmonds got fired sou see where this is heading. To report that the big man get a "serious dressing down" from WICB is childish and pitiful writing to say the least.

If the above is the case, the Chairman of Selectors should hand in his resignation today (now for that matter).
No serious organization does that to its employee...or communicates such sensitive matter to the media to be made public.
Unbelievable.

Between
Hants's and
Jabari's posts, this is the whole saga with regard to Jason Holder. Completely messed up.
How about reprimanding the Selectors?

Well, what did the Selectors expect, they selected an un-establish player to lead and hoped for a miracle. The miracle has not yet happen and it may never happen, but it is now on the Selectors to be patient and allow Holder to develop his game, mostly his bowling.

Since when it has become the prerogative of the Head Selector to give serious dressing down to players on their performance?
Shouldn't that have been the coach's purview?
Selectors select, coaches coach... oh, forgot that the coach has been fired.

The selectors can disappoint the captain. Jason same as Floyd Reifer, unexpected opportunity and how do they handle it. What they should have done is let the stats justify their name being on the team sheet.

Why is this a surprise to anyone--Holder will always struggle to make any WI team; long or short format. He will be sacked after this tour..

When WI selectors first selected him as captain all knew his limitations. When some of us pointed out that this he is no different to Sammy and will continue to mess up the balance of the team all were up against the sensible voices.
Interestingly, WICB reprimands him for the same which many of us foresaw. Wish the young man is not damaged completely
