WEST INDIES Cricket Board (WICB) Chief Executive Officer Michael Muirhead said he is disappointed by the shellacking the West Indies is receiving on their tour of Pakistan but believes the sacking of coach Phil Simmons is not affecting the team.
The West Indies crashed to a 3-0 whitewash in the ODI series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates yesterday, going under by 136 runs in the third and final match.
Prior to the series, the world champions were swept aside shockingly 0-3 in the Twenty20s.
The WICB fired coach Simmons on the day the regional side were set to leave for Dubai but Muirhead believes the axing of the respected Trinidadian cannot be blamed for the poor showing by the regional team.
Muirhead said, “I honestly don’t think Simmons’ sacking is affecting the team. Can any single person affect the performance of a team? I heard (former West Indies pacer) Andy Roberts say that in their time they didn’t even have a coach.” Muirhead stressed that the West Indies players are all professionals and should be technically sound at this level to put up a better showing.

They don't need a coach because they are number one.
Think he is talking number two.

Softhead is engaging in speculation. He has made absolutely no attempt to provide evidence of his buttinine statement, except for highlighting, that in the Andy Roberts era "they did not have a coach." Softhead presumably wants us to believe that the world has stopped turning since the days of Sir Andy.
However, for the sake of consistency in his speculation, the Softhead should have continued his thesis and advance a reason why the West Indies team is performing well below its usual poor performance.
Btw, no private entity would have tolerated a 20-year nadir of performances.
Ah well, only in a region best known for mediocrity.

Someone need to tell that cunnamanu, that when you pick and place a number of young/green and inexperienced players together to represent a nation/region, they tend to gravitate toward the most senior among them and the most senior in charge of things for support, when you take away that support it will hurt because they have lost something that they were accustomed to.........tell that goat.....(and I doan mean greatest of all time, unless it is being the GOAT goat), that it will affect them and it is affecting them, he think everybody is the WICB, cause when he guh long bout he biddness shortly nuff people will exhale.........pleaseee........

WICB is the best joke for the year.
Simmons had the trust of the players.
A coach does not magically turn it on and off.
BOTH PLAYERS and COACHES need TIME to UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER and THEN PLAY for EACH OTHER.
WICB because it is a local lad wanted instant magical results from Simmonds.
We have been in last place for years now.
i still say the WICB is into something sinster.
Too many incidents happpen on a tour.
Someone is happy to see us languish at the bottom.

Sorry the same cannot be said for the administration of WI cricket...this article is a perfect example...How de fack you as an executive giving these types of interview when you made a business decision to move on from Simmons before this series started?
Too much pettiness in WI cricket...be a big man and stick to what the interview should be about...the team players and management that are currently in UAE!

This gentleman Muirhead is lacking something.
He said the following about Simmons previously.
Michael Muirhead, the WICBs chief executive, said Simmons was the right person to take the team forward.
We are thrilled with the appointment of Phil and we believe he is the right individual for our team and our region at this time, so we want to welcome him back home, Muirhead said.
Phil has a proven ability to develop players, while cultivating great team spirit and a winning culture. We have a number of young, talented players about whom he is excited to be coaching and we believe he is the right fit.
He continued: Phil has impressed us with his understanding of the current realities of West Indies cricket and his ability to articulate practical examples and strategies of things that could be implemented within the team to improve performance.
His independence of character and his resolve to stand up for what he believes in were also strong qualities that convinced us that Phil was best suited to usher the West Indies team into a new era of success.
To now state the following is baffling.
I honestly dont think Simmons sacking is affecting the team. Can any single person affect the performance of a team? I heard (former West Indies pacer) Andy Roberts say that in their time they didnt even have a coach.
Why bother to hire a coach in the first place Mr.Muirhead.
You are not right in your head.

Softhead has not figured out that we live in an internet era where the truth is not very far away.
If one is evasive or economical with the truth then you will be found out very quickly.
It is the simplest of tasks in this internet age to set the records straight.

All these months I have refrained from joining the chorus against Muirhead, because there was no substance beyond the usual anti-Yardie stuff that plays out here so often.
But I sign up now! What an ass!

Many of you were gloating and jubilant at the demise of Hunte and Hilaire and indeed the TTCB were main backers in the ousting.
Now at the end of the stick Im hearing whimpering noises
Lash them Dave, lash them.

For years WICB CEO Michael Muirhead has perfectly played his part likened to the adage "See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.". Admirable.
Now he has to go and open his mouth. Sigh.

WOW...this is supposed to be a high level executive saying that WI team does not need a coach. Tell that to the other cricketing nations.
Ohhh by the way, the cricketers need to work on their technique without any assistance from anyone?
This is IGNORANCE in the highest degree. Just when the WICB can't do any worse.
