Evin Lewis, with just a handful of internationals under his name, struck a counter-attacking maiden ODI century to give West Indies more than just a sniff in their attempt to gun down a 300-plus chase for the first time in ODIs. Carlos Brathwaite and Jason Holder then came up with sprightly cameos to take West Indies to within 24 of Sri Lanka's 330 for 7. Then, in a mirror image of Saturday's collapse that resulted in a tie, West Indies stumbled, this time to a one-run loss triggered by panic and poor shot selection.

The result meant Sri Lanka were assured of a berth in Sunday's final, while West Indies and Zimbabwe will play a virtual semi-final on Friday to earn the right to meet Sri Lanka at the same venue. A tie or no-result would knock Zimbabwe out and ensure West Indies' qualification.

West Indies were in control until the last five overs of their chase. Carlos Brathwaite and Holder put together 45 for the seventh wicket, before Nuwan Kulasekara delivered an inswinging yorker that beat Brathwaite and hit middle stump. Suranga Lakmal then took over, bowling full and taking out Ashley Nurse in the next over. Suddenly, West Indies, who were cruising for most parts of the chase, needed 19 off 10 balls.

I said it before and I repeat it again: we CANNOT win too many ODI's with K Brathwaite on the team no matter where he bats. The boy is a brilliant test cricketer and for the good of West Indies we should not try to spoil him by asking him to do what he cannot do. He is NOT an ODI cricketer period. Having him on the team will cause us to lose more games since he is an occupy -the- crease player, and ODI is a strike per ball game. Not only is he not able to attack the bowling but his presence in the crease puts immense pressure on his batting mate and the team because they feel the pressure of having to make up for him. Shiv was far more attacking than K Brathwaite, and yet he was dropped from the ODI team because selectors did not feel he was aggressive enough. I really like the boy, but sorry he is the wrong man for this job. We have 3 good ODI openers in Lewis, Charles and Hope so no need for KB. They would be better off playing Dowich or a Chase/Blackwood.

Since you joined in 2015, you posted 98 times.. suh please tell me why or when you said that KB cannot or play ODI's? While you answer, justify your choice of Chase and Blackwood, please?

In reply to WestDem You are right that it was after 6 games, but his SR is just 58.48. Though his average of 32 is good, his SR is very bad. In fact in his 6 games he has scored a total of 193 runs but he faced 330 balls to get them. FYI in ODI 330 balls is equivalent to 55 overs. Think of a team scoring 193 runs in 55 overs and tell me how many games they will win. I also want you to think of Lewis who has played only 4 games, an average of 53.75, and strike rate of 98.17. Even Hope after 3 games is averaging 57.66 and a SR of 74.24. Such strike rate will help teams win but KCB will not help teams win too many games

Well you really have time my friend to even keep count of when I joined and how many times I posted. But FYI I posted that same thing under the tied game. Also, I have called various sports show around the Caribbean, and Caribbean stations in South Florida to make that same point.
